Well, they never told me that policy! They said the final payment was due at delivery, which I made... but when I quickly discovered the problems and became concerned that they didn't seem too willing to respond favorably to correct things, I placed a "stop payment" on the check. Of course, that only worked because they told me too late that they expected a bank check (Saturday afternoon when delivery was on a Sunday), which is what they originally wanted. In any event, I certainly wouldn't have felt comfortable making any final payments before I had even seen any cabinets! I wouldn't have appreciated being contacted by the cabinetmaker, either! You're right -- you and I contracted with THEM to handle everything with the cabinetmaker. They should be able to make their cabinetmakers correct everything without involving you more than is necessary. And I also didn't appreciate the delays in delivery (the cabs ended up being about 3 weeks late), but I've come to believe that's not uncommon with custom cabinetry either. I'm sorry you had a difficult time. I still would love to see pictures of your kitchen... does it resemble the painted cabinets on their website? Those are so pretty! I routinely explain to clients that a kitchen remodel takes between 8-12 weeks, IF they are able to very quickly make decisions, and if everything goes absolutely correctly. I also explain that many times, this is optimistic and that cabinets are damaged in shipping, or are lost, or come in wrong. This is not an occurrance that warrants compensation. It happens, and it's one of the reasons I don't recommend any demolition work begin until all products are on hand in an undamaged condition. Even then, mishaps or miscommunications can occur in the demolition, reconstruction, or cabinet install phase. Life isn't predictible, and unless a delay is caused by deliberate malfeasance or is egregious, it's also considered to be within the scope of possiblity of occurance and isn't compensable. 3-4 weeks isn't an abnormal wait time for correct and undamaged special order or custom items to arrive on a jobsite. I know this process can be frustrating, but don't let this so far minor issue make you crazy. You have a LOT of remodel left if you haven't even gotten your complete cabinets in yet, and if you get hyped up over minor delays, crazy making days are ahead!

Not a solution for the OP-this is how I usually do them. Pictured is a 15" frameless. I aim for 15-18", 21 max.I rarely allow a 9" cabinet into a design but have done these at 12" For semi custom brands ordering is a hack, talk with your KD and get detailed drawing and order info. Should be something like- door shipped loose (or deleted and separate door ordered) one standard RO, one tall RO or drawer box (8" high). Method for field install of door depends on door style-options include : 6" tall narrow angle brackets on sides, "L" bracket on top of bottom box, ply attached to door, sometimes can just attach the door to the bottom box-depends. From mid range and up can just be ordered. I disable the soft close on the bottom RO often to cut down on stress when opening and no the bottles don't fall over. We used to do this a little differently so I don't have current photo just rendering but the cut away side helps clarify (have a few installing currently and will get pix once they are loaded).

I can tell you my experience. Painter did all boxes by hand, after sanding and priming. He took the doors to his buddy who owns a car restoration business and he sprayed the doors. Fantastic job. Not cheap. Next year my husband had to take his truck in for a minor accident repair. He asked the fellow if he would spray kitchen cabinet doors. Absolutly! For a fraction of the original price. Not only would he spray cabinet doors, he would spray dining room sets, etc.
