Has anyone heard of this sealer?

It is called SPRINT AntiDrop, water and oil proof protector. It is made in Italy. It states that it prevents marbles, stones, granites, bricks, and tiles from absorbing oil, grease, water, sauces, and other food-stuffs. It also states it keeps the originary aspect of the treated surface avoiding the deposit of dirtiness and powder.

My granite supplier recommends using it. I have a softer granite that has some characteristics of marble. He feels it will work well on my stone (although I do realize nothing will prevent etching (which is what I'm more worried about)).

What is your "softer granite". If it is a granite or a similar granitelike material it will not "etch" because it has a different chemical make-up than marble.

I have not heard of this particular sealer, but f you trust the fabricator, then go for it.

This is the first I've heard of it, as well. That doesn't mean much, though.

The zipper bags are thinner material and are OK for a short time in the freezer, but for me, they are just not heavy enough to offer freezer protection when I make 20 pounds of sausages. FS bags and rolls are 3 mils thick. Zipper bags are, at best 1 mil thick. I even mentioned to FS that they would do well if they offered some bags with attached zippers at one end, that also had tear off seals behind the zipper. You fill from the open bottoms and seal as usual. Once you need to open the sealed package, simply tear off the seal at the zipper end and unzip. Then if the contents is not all used at one time, it can zipped up and returned to the freezer again. Any of the FS sealers can have problems if the bags are not totally flat in the sealing area. I always leave an extra 1-2 inches of bag material as you can't easily seal too close to the food product. I also make sure the sealing strip is clean, the rubber strip above it is free of any debris, and the foam rubber seal around the open trough, that the ends of the bags rest in is also clean. Never had any problems with mine, and its now over 4 years old. I also buy bag material on sale from FS, or from some of the other companies that offer it for similar machines. Seal A Meal is now owned by the same company Jardin. A hand pump was used on a small marinator I used to have. It was clumsy and hard to deal with for anything bigger than a single chicken breast. It was heavy plastic, and you had to pull on teh hand pump to draw in a vacuum, which, at best, as minimal. A seperate impulse type bag sealer can also help as it can seal a bag in less than 2 seconds. I have one that I also use to seal two sheets of Remay white plastic fabric used as plant covers outside.

Thank you so much Babushka cat! I read all about your counters when I was contemplating my own. There don't seem to be a lot of us creamo delicato owners out there. (I also have an orange & white cat...although I don't think mine would fit in a bowl-he's almost 20lbs!). Was your 511 applied after any other sealer or was that the only product you've used? Any other experiences? Maybe Bill V is still around??

I use Tenax Proseal. No certifications needed and I'll bet it performs as well as the others.

I am with Sheila on this one. I’ve been a member of other forums where a member died, and relatives were always gracious if the inquiry was respectful and sincere. Each time, they were pleased that the deceased was so well liked in a online community and relayed some details they wanted the forum to know about the deceased. I had found Merlena’s home and cell numbers and tried to call them. The home just kept ringing, the cell was answered by a man who did not know her. So I have no further leads. But had she answered I would have just said I was BenT on the rose forum and a bunch of us hadn’t heard from her and were hoping she and her garden were well. That’s all.

vrjames, my sample piece of the winter moon 'granite' did etch... does that mean it is not granite?

winter moon is a marble from Brazil with a high amount of fine quartz in it.
the Brazilians introduced it as a quartzite but it is not.
it is to be treated like a dense marble, put it in honed and seal it every year and it does very well.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this information. Is there anywhere I can get this information in writing? It was sold to us as granite, although our fabricator swore up and down to us that it was marble. Now, Verona Marble Company is telling is it is a 'soft' granite. This was not disclosed to us - we told them we needed a tough granite for our 4 x 8 island that we planned to use to eat meals. It also includes a sink. They told us it would be great for this use. I do love the stone, but I don't want to worry so much about the etching. I agree about getting it honed. We are going to call and see if we can find out if Verona Marble Company will pay for the honing since they sold it under 'false pretenses'.

Thanks again...any more information you could pass along or direct me to would be GREATLY appreciated.

My marble was honed by the slab -- the quotes were $300-500 for the whole slab. It adds some, but it shouldn't be worth losing sleep or sanity over.

I haven't seen that stone before. Looks very interesting. Please post pictures when you have it installed.

Do not be to hard on them as our knowledge came from the exact scenario and we did pay to have the material honed in place after install as it scratches easily.

We now sell it honed only and as a marble.

Sometimes information flow in this industry is slow.
