Yes, run a utility knife along the top and the bottom of the molding where in contact with ceiling or the wall so you don't pull the paint with it and along the joint where the molding connects and gently separate the molding not to break it, pull any nails attached to the molding from the backside of it so you don't damage the surface and re-install the molding. That being said, depending on the amount of molding you be taking out, in most cases you better off getting a new molding one size bigger, install it the right way and have a nice clean look. We are currently remodeling our bathroom and thinking through the design of our next one (this is a temporary home, we already own land to build on but a mortgage was cheaper than rent here ;) ). Features I am installing here that I have used in other bathrooms - LIT MEDICINE CABINETS! Oh my these are wonderful. Great ring of light for makeup and smart storage of toiletries, easily accessible. BOTTOM OF LINEN CLOSET IN BATHROOM SIZED TO HOLD A LAUNDRY BASKET. Keeping it tucked away inside the storage cabinet by the sink streamlines the flow. PLUGS IN THE CABINET AND A DRAWER OR TWO. I know we aren’t the only people with electric toothbrushes, curling irons, electric razors, etc. I had my husband install a plug on the middle shelf of the aforementioned linen cabinet and a bank of plugs inside a drawer on each side of the vanity for charging these things safely and keeping the countertop uncluttered. Remember that bathroom plugs need to be arc fault protected GFCI, and that goes for the ones in furniture, too. TIMER ON THE BATHROOM FAN. I love love love having the timer option on my fans so I can set them for awhile, leave the room, and let them exhaust without running for hours on end. Simple and convenient. **** Now as you can see none of these is particularly costly. They just make the bathrooms live well, and smartly, without requiring excess space or even fancy materials. I used several of these features in the kids bath of this house already and they add so much custom home convenience without some weird premium. And since this house is small and has a ton of people (we have seven kids), every inch of space needs to work hard for us. These upgrades are ones worthwhile. Sure, at the next place we’ll also have radiant heat throughout, a bathroom that is fully accessible and easily cleaned, bigger closets, etc. But it is these little things that make the most difference between a drywall palace mass produced tract home and a true custom job. Neither option is great. As it is, you exit your bedroom to a view of the garage door, and any shoes that might have been left in that hall. I don’t see a good drop zone for “stuff”. On the other hand, having the bedroom door exit to the dining nook gives you less privacy. But, it is nicer to walk out to, and is more convenient throughout the day. And would let you reconfigure the closet and bath to allow more space in the laundry and service hall, better drop zone. But, since you didn’t ask but shared the whole plan... You lose a lot of storage in your closet and potential drop-zone or hook space in the laundry room, by having a door from closet to laundry. By having rods in the closet corners, you already have unusable or inaccessible hanging space. Is it really that far to walk around? Maybe you could have a small pass through instead? Don’t do double doors to the bathroom, they are a bother. Having the other three bedrooms approached through the living room gives you less usable space in the living room. If you can move Bedroom #4 forward, the foyer can lead to the bedrooms, creating a nice straight route from the laundry and garage. A bit more gracious, and a bit more private for those bedrooms. And, you won’t have a view from the kitchen to the hall bathroom! For lighting, consider solatubes in the halls. In the kitchen, the refrigerator seems to be up against the wall; be sure you can open the fridge door past 90 degrees. It might need to move over a bit. And, please reconsider the angled sink in the island. When the dishwasher is open, it’s in the way of where you are standing. Where will the dishes and silverware be stored? your kitchen does look a lot like the first inspiration photo you posted. therefore I think that it would look really good to do full cabinets up to the ceiling. who cares if they're high out of reach? use them to store rarely used items. before you decide either way, I strongly recommend having your architect do a rendering for you so you can feel more confident about that decision. also, will the windows need to have shades? if not, I'd do a full window with an angled top. but if you need shades, then what you currently have will be easier to deal with (it's too hard to make shades for angled windows, and they usually look weird).
