I am curious why not a mirror? DH has an oak highboy dresser and we have an antique gold oval mirror mounted. Have a committed a decorating faux pas? DH's dresser is approx. 5 ft. tall.

Fun, I didn't even think of that idea. I could use the vanity in its current position (it's the brown piece of furniture on the other side of the bed). Her doll stuff could go in the vanity drawers. When she is no longer playing with dolls, we could reassess vanity vs desk. LuAnn, I don't know of anyone that has one either. It's a family piece that I used at first in her nursery as a changing table. :) Our formal dining room is repurposed as a library with a large table for projects and homework. That is also where the computer is. The desks in their rooms are for quiet small projects, drawing, etc. My daughter uses her current vanity for that function now. She uses it all the time. That's why she needs a larger desk with more drawers. I had a desk in my room (that white one in the pic, actually) and I used it all the time. I loved having my own space to go to when I needed quiet. Growing up, our house was small so the bedrooms were the away spaces. Now my house is much larger but all open concept so the bedrooms are still the away spaces. We have a desk elsewhere in the house that I can repurpose in her room to just try it out rather than investing in a new desk. Thank you for all the advice!

decoenthusiaste -- hahaha! I had the same exact thought. my next thought was: this is a boy? no way. I've heard many horror stories when it comes to the moments the diaper is not there. think: pee fountain, all over that detailed starburst mirror. my final thought is: baby toes accidentally kicking the prongs of that mirror. ouch. ok, now for some helpful advice: earthquake hooks are a good idea. be sure they're well secured into the studs or use drywall anchors. pull / shake that mirror hard to make sure it couldn't be accidentally bumped off the wall. for a mirror style, I would not recommend anything with prongs that the baby could kick. consider a wide rectangular mirror hung kind of higher up. (sorry I don't have any style recommendations, this is just practical advice.)
