Lots of MN schools closed, or starting late....haven't seen ours listed, but I'm sure it will be late starting.

Not hitting the pool, water temps vary to the outside temps

It has been unseasonably hot here this week, breaking records on Monday. Tried to buy sandels for 2 year old grandson because of the continuing heat, but we could not find any for boys. Lots for girs,though. Soooo, I assume you do not feel sorry for us in our plight of trying to buy toddler sized boy's sandels.

I don't miss winter weather.

-20º actual temp out here in Western Iowa...but we do have school. Not very many kids walk to school (heck I don't know if ANY walk to school in the winter.)

We are starting 2 hours late though.

Most school's here in central Illinois are closed today too. If a school bus were to break down with a load of kids it would be a bad thing.

It's -24 here this morning and most of the schools in the area are closed.

Our thermometer now reads -30, it was reading -29. Our school is on time and buses on time.

PS I should add, our school also has classes that begin at 7:30. Its nots not to delay the start. We lost Friday last week and Monday this week to storms and no school. At least delay it til its light out!

Nodakgal, our schools had Zero Period, starting at 6:30 am and two of my kids took classes then as upper classmen. They liked the Zero Period classes because they always knew who their teacher would be and because they wanted to take an extra class. At registration for classes, Period 1 through 6 classes did not indicate who the teacher would be, so for some classes they really liked avoiding a particular teacher or being assured they would be getting someone they really liked. The other kid had surf class at dawn. The rule was that as the sun was just starting to come up, their feet had to be on the water line at the beach. They surfed through zero and first periods, rushed home during 2nd period to shower and change and be at school by 3rd period. This son lettered in surf.

-3 here tomorrow morning. I would be standing out in the freaking cold waiting on the shuttle bus to take me to work, but I think I'll be charge nurse, go in early so I won't have to wait (I hope anyway!).

Not sure if they are going to close the schools here or not. It's been snowing off and on all week. Nothing really sticking, though.

We were such wimps in Georgia! When I was in elementary school (early 80's) we would get cold days off- I think it would get down into the low teens. Of course, many of the kids didn't own coats but you kids having to wait until it was -27 to close schools sure makes us look bad. LOL

What is -21 F in Celsius? Our kids still go to school if it's -35 C or -41 C with the wind chill although the buses may not run. Most kids come anyway. This is frosty Saskatchewan though and I guess we're used to it. And it's awful when it's that cold. Spring can come anytime! LOL :D

First message I got from the high school was for an hour delay. Then they closed it.

Danielle... -21 C = -5.8 F, not all that bad. -35 to -41 C, on the other hand, is REALLY COLD -31 to -41.8 F. Now all of us in the states sound like wusses (not just janie-ga and those other wimps in Georgia :-)

School was held as normal here in our county (Houghton Co, MI) although all the counties around us were either having 'cold' days or late starts. But it didn't get lower then -2 F. here today.

We were at -25ºF this morning - and that would be about -32ºC for you.

I think a lot of the school closing are just due to the fact that we don't get these cold of temps all the time. They are not unheard of, but it doesn't happen all the time. In other words - we really aren't that tough, lol!

Our bus route is about 1 hour of all country roads - not a great place for a bus to quit. They had a lot of trouble with the busses quitting right before Christmas when we had a cold snap...so I think they were erring on the side of caution.

I think the Des Moines districts cancelled school since so many young kids walk to school.

And I am really really hoping we have school tomorow :)

I'm not sure if there is school tomorrow or not. Probably not since they did not have it today. But when I was in school, they never shut down the school due to cold weather, only snowy weather. I remember when I was in high school and the actual temperature was -50F and we still had school. Now that seemed insane to me. I don't remember a day since that has ever gotten that cold. That was once in a lifetime cold and I hope I never have to have that again.
