I have a collection of pink depressions glass (the only color I really like) but I do not have it displayed at this time. I used to have it in a china cabinet, now I only get it out when I use it (looks beautiful with my china). I also collect ruby red glass and have that displayed in my china cabinet with some of my red transferware.

Well, Oakley, the first thing I'd suggest is NOT displaying a lot of glass in a kitchen on open shelves, unless you don't cook or have an ENORMOUS kitchen or are a glutton for punishment! To me, glass has to sparkle to be beautiful, and you'll be washing yours every other day if it's on open shelves in a kitchen.

I inherited a lot of depression glass (pink and green) and American Brilliant cut crystal from my mom and grandmothers which I display on open shelves, tables, the piano, rather mish-mash style. I think it is all beautiful. It all requires a lot of dusting on the open spaces around the house and washing every few months, but the crystal cookie jar in the breakfast nook of my kitchen requires actual washing once a week because of what settles on the lid.

I am no cleaning wizard - I have lots of clutter and am lucky to dust and vacuum every other week, wash the windows maybe once a year. I do cook a lot, though, so that is from where I speak. I could never, ever wash the glassware as often as it would take to keep it sparkling in my kitchen.

Sherrmann, so far so good. The hutch and other shelves in the kitchen are away from the stove and these have been displayed for almost two years now, and they don't get that dusty either.

Before we remodeled, there was a ledge above the cabinets where I put some old depression glasses. About six months later, the one's above the stove were just coated in dusty grease. Talk about a chore to clean. Thank goodness for 409! lol

I no longer display my yellow Cameo depression glass. It doesn't show up well even with white behind it. Now, if I had a green pattern or ruby, I'd figure out something.

Java, that's funny because I just moved my two yellow pieces (platter and sherbet glass) to another place because they just blended in.

They're very pretty with beautiful intricate patterns on them.

In our house guests get to pick their wine or drink glasses. Everyone has a lot of fun with this. I have several patterns of depression glass, crystal, fancy glass and even glass ware from the 50's and 60's, rarely more than six pieces of each type. I display them on shelves based on their use (champagne, cordials, wine, water, high/low ball and beer) and try to keep the pieces together on the shelf.

I will take a couple of pics for you tonight but it's kind of dark in there so if they aren't great I'll come back and do more tomorrow for you if you want.

Thanks, Igloo! Hoya, I have a curio cabinet in my LR but it's filled with other things. I may have to squeeze in one or two on the bookshelves.

I'm trying to keep the collections together which makes it a bit easier to decorate with.

Why don't they make pretty things like that anymore?

Amoires in just about any form work well for display though, even if it's not in the kitchen and I will say it's nice to keep the dust off of the "stuff". But even on open shelves (I always screw up that spelling by the way LOL) you can still get a nice look by just grouping like sizes and types even if there is only one of each :)

That said...I can't wait for a butlers pantry LOL The china cabinet drives me NUTS!!!!

My glassware is in my back hall's Butler's Pantry.

Lol new home LOVE the lamp! (I have a pair in anchorage...they always make me smile).

My Waterford water goblets and red wine glasses are displayed in the china closet in the DR. All other glassware is housed in the kitchen in a cabinet with a door.

I think you will doing quite a bit of washing of your glassware if you display it in your kitchen on shelves that aren't behind glass.

Although displaying behind glass has worked well for me, I still wash my stemware before using, as the dust somehow finds its way behind the glass doors of the china and kitchen cabinets.

igloo - can you send your internet ghost to me? I have lots of tax prep that needs attention and I'd love for someone to take care of it while I sleep!

Work, I've had a lot of the glassware out on the hutch for two years now and it doesn't need washing. I use a dust rag about twice a month.

Depression glass is too pretty to hide in cabinets, you ought to get your's out!
