Making Soup Base

Hello Everyone,

Normally I hang out at Gardenweb Vegetable Forum, but I thought I would pay you lovely people a visit.

This is my third year of gardening, and every year I try to grow a little more. This year my mother in law is going to teach me to can tomatoes and other veggies. Last year my husband and I bought a chest freezer so he could freeze any venison that he managed to hunt for himself - that hasn't happened yet, but I can keep hoping. More than likely I will freeze a few veggies and store them in the chest freezer for winter time.

I am also growing herbs - lots of herbs! I am left wondering if I dry all my herbs, freeze/can/dehydrate some veggies and my husband actually got a deer, could I have all the ingredients for a (dry) soup mix base. My hubby and I are fond of the dry soup mix bases that come in bags. The veggies are dehydrated, but come to life again in water. I just hate how much sodium is in those soup base mixes. It almost makes the mouth pucker.

I am not such a good cook. My hubby does most of the cooking in the house. I've run this idea of creating my dry soup mix base by him, and he really doesn't think it will work. I feel it has a good chance of working, but I have far more optimism than cooking skill. I already have a veggie/fruit dehydrater that gets used every summer. We also have a pretty decent drying set up in our garage to dry herbs. Anyone try making a dry soup mix base, or is my hubby right on this matter?

Below I posted a link showing some dry soup mix brands that are common. I especially like the Bear Creek Brand.
