Heat pump or Gas furnace?

Hi.

I live in Tampa Florida all year round, while my neighbor lives both here and in Columbus, Ohio.

My neighbor, it turns out, owns a small HVAC company in Ohio, and when I was discussing changing my gas furnace out for a heat pump, he said absolutely NOT!!!

He said that the heat pump is not as durable as the furnace and that it would break and need replacement long before the furnace. The heat pump works 12 months a year while the furnace/ac works almost half of that, each

Yet, everything I have read on this forum tells me that the heat pump is the best way for me to go. I am talking about a 5 ton Carrier Performance 25HPA6 2 speed scroll compressor. The house is 2500 sq. ft.

Any opinions?
