I think that's a great idea for bringing light into the hallway and the etched glass looks great with a light behind it.

Why not a 15-light glass door? You could mount a lace or sheer panel behind it to conceal the contents of the laundry room if that is a priority. I think that would let more light through. A glass door to me is more of a classic and less taste specific.

I cut out the tops of my laundry doors and put in some etched plexiglas to let more light in to the hallway and stairway opposite the laundry room. It reads "It all comes out in the Wash"

I didn't want to "announce" what was behind my door. I just went with a full panel frosted door that goes from the kitchen to the laundry room.

Doors in our hallway were a problem too. The one for the basement actually opened into the hall and people could not pass when it was open. So, we removed it and installed this one in the landing. Now, the congestion has been eliminated, the door can stay open or if closed, one can see someone on the opposite side. This one has grooves in the glass creating the pane effect. Much easier to clean. Probably could be ordered frosted too. We installed the identical door for our office.

Yours all look so nice! The trim in our house is stained walnut, so I would get a door to stain. Can you see anything through these doors? I wouldn't want anyone to see the overflowing laundry hampers or clothes hanging to dry.

Wow do I love everyone's doors! I've been hoping to install just such a door (probably kissing cousin to beekeeperswife's for my water closet, which gets the best morning sun in the whole house. Everyone has done such a beautiful job and the creativity is superb. Thanks for sharing!

I think etched doors, half doors and french doors inside the home are a useful and interesting way to banish dark areas.

My pantry is off a hallway just outside the kitchen; I described what I wanted to the artist (I collect pigs) and he designed and etched the glass.

The light fixture in the pantry came from my grandmother's living room, circa 1927. At night I leave the light fixture on so the etched glass is illuminated.

Our laundry room is just off the kitchen. Even though it has a window, we decided to put a 15 lite french door/transom with decorative glass to add interest. You cant ever have much natural light imo.

sjt900, you can't see the heaps of laundry or other random items in there, just the nice diffused light comes through.

One more question I forgot to ask. :) For those of you who have the glass door in the laundry room, how's the noise level? Is it much noisier than a wooden door?

We used a 15 lite door on our pantry as well. We got clear glass and added an Asian rice paper film to obscure the contents of the pantry. It adds so much more light in the pantry than we used to have.

Your local home center should have a variety of window films. We applied one to some of our glass doors. Basically after cleaning the glass you squeege onto a misted pane and trim. Sort of like wallpapering on a small scale.

Before finding this product ours were rice papered but the paper didn't remain securely attached in a basement and therefor looked unattractive. No problems in more than 5 years with the film. Good luck

You could also use any fabric/sheer cut to size and then applied to the glass with liquid starch. I learned this trick while my husband was active in the military.

Roseabbey, what a beautiful door and room. Your kitchen seems to glow with light, and it's a gorgeous spot in its own right as well.

I've been pondering for years switching out the el cheapo door that leads to our bedroom 'wing' with a glass one. But the etched is really what would work best there and thanks to this discussion I can now see it perfectly in my mind's eye. The things one learns on this board!

When you enter my new home from the garage - the door to my bedroom, powder room, laundry and closet are all right there.
I put an etched "laundry" door similar to the one you posted on my laundry room. No you cannot see what's in there very well. It does have a large window so I wanted the light from the window to come into the hallway. Just like you were thinking. I also just wanted a different looking door in that space to break up all the doors.

My dog stays in the laundry room while I'm at work so I thought a glass door letting in light would be nice for him, less confining.

I'm really glad I put one of these in.

Can't see anything thru ours. And it is no louder to me than the old door.

Here's the story of mine. I went to Lowe's, had it priced it was something along the lines of $350. So, then a lightbulb went off in my head. There is a lumber store nearby that is known for having tons of doors, great prices, lots that were returned by GC--perhaps they were cut wrong, etc. Great prices. I took my existing 6 panel wood door in with me, they hunted for one that was already cut to see if they could find one that matched...and voila. I got one! It cost me around $125. If it hadn't been cut they would have charged a very nominal fee to do the carpentry work for me by using my existing door as a template.

If you are in the SE PA or DE region, let me know, I'll give you the name of this place. They have lots and lots and lots of doors. Even ones that with writing.
