Appliance Garage like or dislikes?

I now have an appliance garage where I hide my toaster and blender and bread maker.

It eats up a lot of counter space,in the corner ext to the sink. It is in a corner cupboard. What recommendations options do you have to store small appliances other than appliance garages. Would you do an appliance garage again?

I'm not a fan.

Nothing inherintly wrong with them, but the execution usually leaves a lot to be desired. The tambour doors are often sticky, and you generally have to slide the appliance out to use it. Hides clutter, but wastes space.

I don't see anything wrong with appliances that are used daily [or a couple times a week] being out in plain sight. I think it's funny when people try to keep their counters completely clear so the kitchen looks like a design showroom, but design show rooms 'stage' the kitchens with small appliances so they look more lived in...

Used less than that, I keep them on the Lazy Susan in the base cabs-- easy to grab, but keeps the clutter factor down.

also not a fan of tambour doors and agree that the corner counterspace they typically eat up is less than ideal. Having said that, I have an appliance garage (w/o a tambour door) and I love it. The cabinetry does not go around the corner, just dies into the wall so it seemed to make sense in my situation. I keep my toaster oven in there. I keep mixer, food processor, blender stick, etc. in a draw and it really isn't much of a hassle to pull those things in and out. If we could get by with a toaster, I'd have enough room for the toaster and the food processor in the appliance garage, but the TO is sort of part of the family, so I can't really get rid of it.

I have used the 4080BM speed oven for about a month. I do like the fit and finish of the unit as it looks good paired with the H4880BP Oven. It fits the need as a second oven and comes with microwave functionality. I did find that it was a little under powered at first but Miele was out to check the setup of my dishwasher and changed the voltage setting on the speed oven (240). After that the microwave function works great. The cleaning is issue is OK. It is a little hard to remove some stains but I have experienced the same with a regular microwave. The surface of the steel has a waffle finish. The unit does not shut off after it has run even if you open the door. This seems to the same with the dishwasher. I just press the off button before I remove the food. If you don't it can be annoying as you think it is finished and then beeps again. I use a splatter guard to cut down on the splatter. This works well. All in all it is a good comprise of an oven and a microwave. If you are a diehard microwave user and donÂt need an additional oven you may want to consider only a microwave. I chose 4080BM as I didnÂt like the looks of a smaller microwave with an add-on trim kit.

It seems that if there is one can agree on, it's a good refrigerator - I can't one with more than review out there that gets better than a 3 out of 5. So we've looked, and found one we think we like, and I wanted to see if anyone had any experiences with it that they could share. Background - Have an LG french door, about 3-4 years old, and we detest it. Most drawers/latches have broken or come unaligned (and we are not tough on it - kids are small and don't access the fridge), the freezer is an unorganizable pit, and we just had ANOTHER freezer failure melting the ice (then freezing it in a lump!), ice cream, defrosting more meat than we can eat this week, etc. . .We want to go to SxS, with in-door ice (we use a lot and don't want to open the freezer each time). We took a look today, and the Kenmore model #5882 seemed the best - enough of the good features without too many of the useless ones. Patti bee brings up a very good point. The location of the garage is very important. It has to be in a spot that is convenient as far as location of the appliances, but not such that it gets in the way. My garage sticks out farther than the other upper cabinets (18") due to the way the lift up pocket door works. Because of this, I had to find a spot for it that had enough counter space in front of it to allow me to pull things out and use them outside of the garage. I went through many iterations of my kitchen layout, and one of the things that gave me the hardest time was where to put the garage. With an 18" depth, placing it on a regular 24" deep counter would only leave 6" of workspace in front of the garage. Thus the placement on the wall end of my peninsula was the ultimate solution. Not only did that provide an entire peninsula counter in front of the garage, but it also gave me usage for a space which normally would not have gotten much use at all. In point of fact, it does sort of break up the peninsula workspace which I use for prep 90% of the time, from the to-the-right-of-the-cooktop workspace. But that works for me because those two workspaces have completely separate purposes so there's not a lot of interaction between the two. There was at least one other spot in my kitchen that the garage could have gone without breaking up the workspace, but again, it was paramount that the appliances be in the spot where I would do my prep most often. So in order to be a good addition to the kitchen, it must be in a location that is convenient to the workspace without taking up necessary workspace. A delicate balance!

Oruboris. Never thought about the lazy susan for storage... it is right there and makes sense.
Mamadadapaige. Kitchen is beautiful. What kind of range is that? I am thinking about deleting the appliance garage. The tambour is a pain to clean and I am lucky mine has not broken over the years. i could use doors but that can be very unfunctional swinging in the way of stuff on counter.
