Almost finished with 1/2 bath...maybe??

I still have a few things to do.....frame the mirror - replace the soap dispenser - maybe I should consider tidying up the hand towels??!!

Anyways, I did this to the walls to help hide the stains that lots of little boys (and big boys) can leave on flat paint around a potty area. Gross. Went into it saying to self.....can alway wallpaper if it looks like well, some one smeared something on the wall!!

I can take it if you think it looks like an 80's really bad faux paint job!! Red sponging on mustard yellow walls:)

Your faux paint job is beautiful. Entire room is really luxurious. Congratulations. One thing, that little lamp on the sink. It's cute but to my eye it looks like it could be dangerous.

Warren8- I think you would have made the Lady's Garden Club very proud! Your pergola truly looks like it would have been original to your home...and the double stairway is something that also would have been seen in homes of those days. Great craftsmanship! I think a climbing rose would be the perfect compliment to this entry way. You might even add a small painted wooden oval plaque with "Dedicated to the Lady's Garden Club" and edged in painted roses as a small ornament on or near it...just an added touch to tie into the history of the house. Enduring: the vinyl floor is Mannington, the collection is called Alloy, and the color we got was Carbon Steel. For the tile I went with DalTile K101 because it was a white that was close to Kohler white. The grout color is SuperWhite. Even so, the white silicone caulk seems a little whiter IMHO. But only if you're looking for it :) Kirkhall - I see Williamsem has given you the link to the Kohler Bancroft ranting :) (thanks, Williamsem!). The tub is a plain old Villager by Kohler. It is new, it's cast iron. Not a great tub for soaking because it's only 30"x60" and not very deep ... But it fit in the space and wasn't expensive. In the master bath we got the Kohler cast iron shower base and I really like it (just the looks, still need shower doors so we haven't used it). Thanks, everyone! I do love having a counter (instead of a teeny wall mount sink) to get ready for work at. Definitely want to finish the space, though. I'm hanging the door today (yay!) Thanks for all the compliments... cdavmd: Paver brand is Flagstone Pavers. White based concrete, in cream/beige/charcoal. We used Orlando Brick Pavers in Orlanfo, FL. We went with American Pavers coping since their cream color looked nicer than the Flagstone Paver light color (I forget the color name). lmhall2000: I believe the wattage of the IntelliBrites is 75W... that is what I recall seeing on the box. The datasheet on the Pentair site states "IntelliBrite pool lights need only 37 watts to create the same light output as traditional incandescent and halogen pool lights do at 161 wattsmore than 75% less!" So a 75W LED (when displaying white light) is equivilent to a 300W bulb. Colors are less brite. We were originally going to put a spa LED on the shallow end, but received advice to put a full size pool light instead. Glad we did. But to make a full size light fit, we had to have a minimum of 3'-3" depth... PB did the extra depth for free (3' was standard). The first 8' of the shallow end is pretty level because of the stairs are 8'. At the deep end, the floor is essentially level for about 10' out from spa wall. The pool is 40', so subtracting the 8' and 10', the floor drops from 3'-3" to 7' over a span of 22'. If you look at my Progess Pics (see link above), you can get a feel for the slope. The slope feels pronounced for me, but I don't mind it. We would have gone with 3'-6" but did not want to pay the extra costs... the deeper you go at the shallow end, the more steps you need... and that is the extra cost. I personally think 4' is too deep at the shallow end if you have small kids. As for cost, if I subtract off the heat pump and spa, then our cost was approx. $37K. Fence was $5K on top of that. That's Orlando pricing. Concrete coping ran about $15 per LF, and pavers ran about $4.50 to $5.00 per SF. Total cost of my pavers/coping was approx. $8300. However, the price of stamped concrete ranged from $9.50 to $15 per SF. terrier96: Technically, the deep end is 7'3", but I say 7'. Our last pool was 5' deep (very common in FL with the high water table). Most PBs include a standard depth of 5'. The additional cost to go from 5' to 7' was $700. But the cost to go from 5' to 8' was $1500. We were just not willing to pay extra for 8' because we thought we did not need it. The 7'3" is deep enough for shallow diving... I can dive in across the width of the pool. We don't dive, and did not want a pool deep enough for proper diving (most residentail pools built with diving boards are not safe enough for diving anyway). We did want a pool long enough for laps, and 40' is good for us. One reason we went with a 20 x 40 was cost. In FL, folks can build a basic 400 SF pool (no coping and no decking) for X dollars, or build an 800 SF pool for 20% to 25% more. We had the room, so spending an extra 20% to 25% to double the pool area was an easy decision. We had 5 folks in the pool on the 4th, with rafts... all in the shallow end and we were not cramped. -Gorilla

Wow! That looks great! What tone of red is that... it doesn't look red, it looks brown. Maybe it's my monitor? It reminds me of tortoise shell... very rich and lovely. Everything looks just great.

How are you going to stick the frame to the mirror? I'm struggling with that same question.

Looks tortoise shell like on my computer too. I really like it! When I first started reading I thought you were showing that as a before picture of bad sponging...I got to the pic and thought "whhaat? I like it!?

What's not to love, scooby? Texture on texture on texture. The paint looks fabulous next to your Lapidus!

I think when you have an exotic granite, sometimes a plain wall can look a bit amemic...like it's not carrying its own weight.

The colors are perfect and your accessories, stunning. You done good!

Oceanna, I am not really sure on that one yet!! My trim is not very wide - it will fit to the side of my mirror so I am thinking I will just use brad nails & a little liquid nails. I did paint my trim on all sides - I used the gel stain in mahogany & dry brushed some bronze on the high parts. I would think liquid nails if just applying trim straight to the mirror, thou - not sure, thou. Liquid nails is some amazing stuff!! My house was not supposed to have mirrors - another mistake with builder - oh well.

Well, I am glad you all like it. It was easy.....Just Miniwax Gel Stain in mahogany & cheesecloth over my exsisting paint that was BM mystic gold.

I did find a gorgeous lamp yesterday that I think is going to look outstanding in there. It was only $12 - marble base & brass - love it!!

Stunning! You picked out the pefect colors. I do agree that you should take the lamp away from the sink. I'm a klutz so I could see myself knocking it over into water. lol. Plus little wet hands turning it on and off...

I have always had a lamp in my 1/2 bath - it always stays on until the bulb blows so no turning on/off.

But here is the new one.....all for $12 from the antique store yesterday. Marble base with wonderful aged patinaed (word??) brass. Took my sis - planned on not buying a thing - but it was 40% off!!

I absolutely love it! My dsis did a faux on my master last yar with a cream and gold and it didn't work out at all. I felt horrible about it but recently painted over it! I wish it had been as pretty as yours!

I forgot to answer the vanity is extra granite - lapidus from our kitchen & the sink is copper.

This experiment is one of those 3am brainstorms - anybody else have those??? I was ~~trying~~ to darken my cabinet with the gel stain like so many here have done. Experimenting with inside cab door.....Scuffed up some - wiped on - waited - and it all wiped right back OFF!! So, I said ummmmmm wonder what it would look like on the walls???

So, what did I do wrong with the cabinets???

Lovely look for the powder room!!

Change the electrical outlet to a GFI which is required for outlets near water anyway.

Gosh scoobyruby, I love it and I don't even like faux painted walls (or I thought I didn't)! I think it's just a great look for a small space, really rich. I do like lamps in the bathroom, and I guess I would have never thought about it being a problem, my kids wouldn't bother to turn one off or on anyway! I have a lamp in a guest bathroom, but unfortunately, the outlets are not placed appropriately in the others. The sink is great, too!

Please have the outlet changed to GFI - that can avoid any potential mishaps - & an antique lamp is lovely but that too may need some elect work - have it ck'd out esp in the application you are using it.

Ditto the grounded outlet. Don't plug in that lamp ANYWHERE near that sink until you do. Someone could be electrocuted.

I never thought about it not being a GFI....the house is not quite 3 year old so surprised it passed code!! But seriously, I have always had a lamp in the bathroom it has never been an issue....there is plenty of space to turn on/off the water & the towels are over the toliet so no dripping water over the socket. But when I have an electrician out again, I will have it changed out.

Can anyone tell me what I did wrong with trying to darken my cabinets?? Scuff/apply stain/ wait/ wipe off? Maybe I didn't scuff enough?
