If your stained cabinets were built by a cabinet shop

How did they finish out the bottom of the upper cabinets? Or did they?

I am stripping and restaining my cabinets right now and have found that the bottoms weren't even made of decent plywood. They still have the lumber quality ink stamp. Obviously, it hasn't been a problem since I've never really noticed before. I knew they were a pain to clean when something splattered.

I just wondered if that is normal, and if not, what do others look like? I know the ones from big box stores aren't like that, but I'm not sure what kind of wood they use on the bottoms either.
