Comments (38)After reading all these comments, I'd like to say that drying your front-loader gasket thoroughly after finishing your loads is something you just need to do- it takes less time than writing these comments/questions! My Electrolux is 10 years old and I always left the door open; with a dehumidifier in the room I thought that was enough. I was wrong. I love this washer, but bought a new HE top-loader ( a big expense for us) and returned it after one day- it was worse than useless. We ordered a new gasket, since I realized that over time the old one had molded and was not salvageable. My husband replaced it with the help of the video and the instructions that came with it. He is handy but had never done anything like this. It was not as difficult as you might imagine and was totally worth it. Now I get down on my knees on my garden kneeling pad and just dry it completely, and put in vinegar with blue jeans loads (this also helps set the dye on denim if you don't want them to fade too fast). I also use vinegar and hot water for towels. Once a week or so I run a hot cycle with vinegar and dry the gasket, and leave the door open. I do not use chlorine bleach at all because of the environmental impact and because of sensitive skin. Also use fragrance- and dye-free liquid detergent, and I'm wondering how much of an impact these ingredients are having on the mold problem y'all are having. All is well, still got my good machine. Comments (1)Hello--I have had the same problems with HE2 washer made in 2004 -- with a dryer stacked on top of it, it has traveled just a little, not across the laundry room. But the vibrations have been very violent and scary so I got a repair person in to take a look, and then spoke with additional repair people to be sure I was hearing the right answer. Repair people told me the bearing (which holds the basket) is wearing out and the cost to repair this is more than a whole new washing machine. This is a problem with most front loaders--the vibrations that get so much water out also wear out the parts. I have just ordered a unitized laundry center with washer and dryer--I much prefer top load with agitator to the front loaders anyway. And I have to replace the dryer because the stacked units will only go with each other and I can't stack the dryer safely on another washer. FYI, repair people tell me that 8-10 years is unfortunately the expected life span of a front load washing machine, which seems awfully short given the cost of these. If you can keep your dryer, you are lucky; mine is working fine but as noted I can't keep it since no room to put the machines side by side....See MoreKenmore HE3t Front loading washer & dryer - advice please
Comments (5)Blackbelt consumer: Sorry to hear of your bad encounter with Sears. You know, when I first got those machines home and tried them on, I already felt that something wasn't "kosher." I guess we bought in to the sales talk too quickly. We never learned our lesson dealing with Sears. We got a Kenmore dishwasher. It was a smaller capacity one, but cost more. We got it because of space limitation. Before the year was up, it already had problem--the water spinner broke--it melted away! And of course the warranty period was over too. So, I was thinking to myself how could Sears sell such a shoddy product! Anyway, Sears will be history for me too. spark823: Thanks for the heads up on LG. Interesting thing is that a few people in this forum seem to have positive things to say of it, but of course until the problem becomes a problem, it's always ok. In all fairness, all things will have problems some day, but if the problems become evident too soon, then the product is no better than the top loaders. They seem to last for years. Only difference is its energy saving feature, but I wonder how much savings is worth looking into, considering all inconveniences one has to go through. By the way, I do use the new detergent that is made for front loaders. laudrytech: The only thing with our set is that we have installed a new vent, so there's no kink or clog as far as we can tell. Also, the machine being so new, there isn't any residue around the door. That said, I will look out for the helpful things you suggested for future trouble shooting though. Guys, I have learned something here and want to thank each one of you for taking the time to respond. Meanwhile, I've been thinking of reverting back to good old days--with the top loaders. Any models to recommend? Stackable ones are preferred. Thanks so much once again and have a good evening....See MoreFront load washer LG vs Kenmore
Comments (2)I've had my LG front loaders for about 4 years now. At first I loved them, thought my clothes got much cleaner. Now, I'm not so sure. I personally will not have front loaders again. IF the door is closed on the washer, it has a horrible musty odor, so I have to leave it open. If it is not perfectly balanced, it sounds like an airplane taking off!! Check out the brands you are considering on epinions.com ... a site where consumers give their honest opinions & experiences. Good Luck!...See Moreitguy08
