This is a great thread. We're not remodeling but building a new house, and man, can I relate to a lot of these. ...you know every lighting fixture, faucet, sink, appliance by memory because you have endlessly researched each one. you freak out your own GC because you can discuss minute details about your house/kitchen from memory down to the 1/8". you have more e-mails from your GC/subs than you do from your friends. you wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat about some critical detail and then go downstairs to e-mail your GC about it right at the moment before you forget.

joy20, all your appliances will have spec sheets and your contractor/cabinet builder should be fully aware of the specs(measurements for depth and width) and if you are having inset doors, they need to accommodate for the doors shutting flush within the cabinet box by building the cabinet box deeper...this is so simple, but critical if they screw it up. Most spec sheets only allow for "overlay doors" - doors that close on the outside of the box, not into it...make sure your carpenter takes this into account! labradoodlemom, benjamin moore's coppermine is the red cabinet...the white cabs are custom to match our trim, but very close to Sherwin Williams Navajo white 6126 Good luck!

In my old kitchen, I had a corner lazy susan in the base and a diagonal-front cabinet in the upper. I'd do the corner susan again, but never the diagonal-front upper! Instead, I'd do an Easy Reach upper like the ones BluBird and NightOwl show above. Base corner susans provide very accessible and versatile storage. Accessibility...Just turn the shelves and whatever you need is always in front for ease of removal/putting away. Versatility...I stored all my pots & pans, colanders, and several large serving pieces in the corner susan in my old Kitchen. Many people store small appliances in them. In order of usefulness (most to less): (#1) Cabinet turned 90 degrees to face outside the kitchen (27" wide) - but only possible if there's an open wall as in a peninsula (2) Corner susan (3) Corner drawers - but they usually have to be custom-made (4) Voiding/deadening out the corner (but don't forget the 3" of filler needed on each side of the corner - basically, 27" on each side (24" + 3")) (5) Blind corner - to be truly useful, they need a pullout, but if something falls off the pullout inside the cabinet, you have to send a small child inside the cabinet to retrieve the item - and the pullout cannot be closed until the item is retrieved. There are some things you can finagle, like the roll out tray shelves (ROTS) in the previous post, but to access them, you have to remove items from the "front" ROTS. I doubt items in the upper ROTS are very accessible - the walls of the ROTS appear too high to see/get into (without leaning over or getting on your knees and scraping your knuckles). Overall, though, blind corners are the least useful storage option.
