How long until you are able to shower and if you can have a shower, just get DH in there with you. Mission accomplished. lol

The hospital gave my husband No Rinse shampoo made my CleanLife Products. It's liquid shampoo that you apply, lather, and then towel dry. Didn't require a sink or any water source. It worked fine for him but I'm sure he has way less hair than you do. I would think a drug store would carry it or maybe you can buy it thru a hospital. I could mail the rest of his bottle to you if you can't find it locally.

Glad to see that you're feeling well enough to be concerned with your hair - always a good sign. Good luck with your recuperation. Let me know if you need me to mail our remaining bottle. It's almost full & he doesn't need it any more.

Okay, well I'm mostly a lurker, but here is my experience.

Between the ages of 6 and 9, I broke my hip 3 times and spent a total of 10 two-month stints in full body casts (from armpits down to the pelvis and then down the right leg to the ankle). Talk about no bending! I was also nonweightbearing and had to be kept horizontal at all times.

Dad used just some scrap lumber and built a smallish table with a fairly large top that stood about as high as halfway between the floor and the top of the mattress. I would then lie sideways on the bed with the top part of my head off the edge and my neck still firm on the mattress. Mom would gather my hair and use a a pitcher to pour water over, with the excess water splashing (mostly) into a large tub placed on the fashioned table. I believe we scooted a plastic sheet (from the baby department) between me and the mattress and then taped down the side of the mattress to prevent it from getting wet.

Primitive? Yes. Efficient? Not so much. But it did work. However, at age 6, happily my hair didn't need washed as much as it would now. I recall the biggest issue I had was that the back of my hair was always full of knots and tangles (aka a rat's nest).

I hope you find an option. I absolutely cannot stand having unwashed hair!

My mother was given these shampoo caps a couple times during extended hospital stays. Pricey, but they worked pretty well on her (short) hair. The other product she got was Aloe Vesta No Rinse Bath/Shampoo. That works well, too. (I just put a little water in her plastic hospital basin thingy, got a washcloth wet, used that to wet her hair, then just for extra measure after the Aloe Vesta I 'rinsed' with a damp wash cloth (like you would if towel drying). Left her hair clean and baby soft.

Feel better. ;)

Do you remember Pssssssst? Powder in a can!
Powder will absorb the oils, (you can use baby powder).
For itchy scalp try Witch Hazel.

Yay! I know you guys would come up with ideas! Thanks! My DH just looked at me like I was nuts when I explained my bag idea to him. It is not just the normal dirty hair its the dried blood that is driving me nuts along with the nasal antibiotic for MRSA that just smeared everywhere everywhere. And it's a long time til Dec.8! DH said he would go by walgreens tomorrow for a shampoo cap. ")

Pain, cervical collar, and gross hair certainly would not be classified as a staycation!

Heck, I was young and dumb. Aside from the summer spent lying in bed listening to all my friends splash in the pool in yard behind us and the Christmas spent eating at everyone's feet, I didn't think it was horrible (at the time).

Your giant ziplock idea is good ; shampoo caps, who knew, what a great invention, let us know how it turns out.............

The No Rinse shampoo stuff is great. I've seen it in most drugstores, although sometimes it's behind the pharmacy counter for some daft reason. We used it a good bit when I was bedbound - I had longer hair (bra strap length) and we would put down a piece of heavy plastic (old shower curtain, I think) with a couple of bath towels on top of it and DH would go at my hair with the No Rinse shampoo. We rigged everything so the length of my hair could go up above my head rather than getting tangled/matted behind my head. Then he'd just fold the top towel up around my head and blot/squeeze my hair dry enough to comb and not get my pillow damp, although the pillow would be covered with another bath towel until I was completely dry. Most of the time I kept my hair braided so it didn't mat up in the back, DH got quite adept at braiding it for me!

I remember well counting down the days until I was allowed to take a shower after surgeries, too. Not Fun. Hope those painkillers are doing their job properly!

Sue, no advice, but hugs and best wishes. Hope some of the ideas above work for you . . . Wnen I was in a wheelchair with my broken ankle last spring, I couldn't shower at DD's house. Every 3 days, DH drove me 40 minutes to the new house where I could sit in a lawn chair in my walk-in shower. What a luxury being clean was!
