Yeah it was pretty chilly last night! I woke up to a good layer of frost on my car and on the lawn. I heard it was going to be in the high 20s last night so I covered up my transplanted seedlings. I took it off about an hour ago because it's supposed to get really warm today (high 60s, maybe 70). I already fried some of my seedlings from not taking that tarp off one day. Linda

Thank you Linda, yup, that's the view from my backyard. It's beautifull. F4F, the tibouchina likes cool weather. Right now, we are having dry heat in the 100s and the flowers don't last at all. They wither by noon. In the fall, when temperatures are nice and cool, the flowers last up to a couple of days and the shrub covers itself in neon purple flowers. Tropicalnut, Arizona is WAY too hot and dry. It will be a big change. Even though some areas in southwestern AZ are close to being sub-tropical desert, they get very little rain and have lots of water limitations. Sure, you can grow plumeria, royal poinciana, bismarckia nobilis...but there are the downsides. Tucson is another warm region of AZ. They are more conservative about their water and garden with mostly natives and near-natives, while Phoenix is more deliberate about their water usage and have spans of green lawn, which is something quite rare in Tucson. I'd say if you want to grow tropical stuff, move to Hawaii where you won't have any limitations in water and won't ever have to worry about frosts.

I can't believe I finally figured out how to post pics!! Please, I need some help. I'm posting this on other forums also. Sorry, these are older pics (& not the best). We are getting ready to drywall soon and I need some advice. These windows are 22 feet high. The window on the lower right is actually an 8 foot height sliding french door. My contractor decided to put the left set of windows equal distant from the left wall and the Log post in the center (between the 2 sets of windows). I originally wanted to keep the log, but now I think it looks off-balanced. Seems the two sets should have been equal distant from the Log post in the center. I hope I'm making sense. Anyway, nothing I can do now. I'm thinking we should trim out this entire wall with wood and build out over the log so it won't look off center. Comments and ideas would be greatly appreciated. Anyone have trim pics of their wood window walls?

very pretty! i actually have a big interest in crystal formation chemistry...dh & i were just admiring a frost formation last week in a frozen yogurt container LOL. that's as close as i want to get to frost formations here in orlando! ~ liz
