I can remember living in CT when we were first married & all the laundry would be like yours when I would bring them in. It was funny to see jeans stand up by themself because they were frozen. Those were the good old days before the dryer.

When I had an office in downtown we passed a trailer everyday, she had clothes on a line every single day. Often it was the same laundry for several days, winter or summer, rain or shine. I would have hated to have to wear any of the items, the line was right along the side of a very, very busy road. The laundry had to be coated with road dirt.

no clothes out thank goodness! did turn on the faucet to a drip in the bathroom...headed down to 16...yuck!

so mad we have this temp plastic sheeting that encloses the lattice on the porch..(keeps snow out) with these darn winds we had, it's ripped in 2 places...i swear i'm gonna figure out how to enclose the porch this summer!

Once I froze my goldfish. Yes, I did! In my bedroom as a teenager.

Have also retrieved frozen sheets, cause I love the fresh air dried sheets. Not dried, but I had the fresh air smell :o)

Going to the old family country home, years ago, as a youth, bricks were warmed by the fireplace, placed at the end of the bed, wrapped, and kept our feet warm for a while.

So Jasdip, did you enjoy hopping into a fresh pair of frozen bloomers? Rumor has it, or should I say rumour has it that frozen laundry kills underwear elastic. Not sure where I heard it, but...

Susanjf, we had a screened porch at our previous house, we went did the plastic for a few years then we bit the bullet and invested in bought plexiglass. It was an expensive initial investment but in the longrun it paid for itself. Hubby designed a toggle system to hang it each year so if worked out to save the lumber as well.

Ah, nothing like the smell of thawing clothes, wrecked elastic or not!

I think that it's the heat that wrecks the elastic - some people store their rubber bands in the fridge.

It sure was nice to have warm weather for so long - I hung a wash out to dry a few days ago.

Now ... if I can just arrange to stretch out the need for another wash ...

... till about March!

One can lay the underwear out in sequence, which was worn first. Then ... lay an unused white church envelope (for shame!) on them after that set's been worn twice ...

... and a brown envelope from the other church on them after the third wearing ...

... and a white paper with a "1" on it, after the fourth wearing ... and a brown envelope with a "1" on it after the fifth ....

When you're going to be at home all day, without visitors ... who needs a change? Especially when they've had almost a week to air out, in the meantime: and who sweats much, in winter (especially if one keeps one's house abut 65 degrrees)?

Haven't you heard - washing's hard on clothes?

Fly in the ointment: the church that had brown (recycled) envelopes last year ... is using white ones, this year! Will have to check whether I have some extra brownies on hand ... as they do tend to get lost.

My friend just gave me it must be at least 50 pairs of socks - that they were throwing out at the church-operated clothing store, cause they couldn't give them away ...

... so I figure that I'll be O.K. for socks till spring (maybe re-wearing just once, if spring's late).

Now that the gardening's over ... and it's snowy and too cold out to do much in the barn ... I'll just have to get busy and sew some of those (garter-belts) for the (lower-level) underwear! The original one's getting rather old and tired, even taking into account the upgrading (i.e. shortening), last fall.
