What is the difference in prices? You want a coil that has the txv valve.

I hope your keeping the gas furnace? I"m also in Ohio, and decided to go to dual fuel by upgrading my ac to heaptump. Its a good choice. I prefer the gas when its below 25 degrees. The heatpump provides superior heat when above 30 (because it provides a nice even heat).

I would add AmStd Heritage 15 heat pump to your list.

You will need new lineset and best performing Trane/AmStd evap coil for your application.

installed price and confidence in dealer should be determining factors.

you do get Trane's proprietary condenser top with the XL15i but since you will have furnace backup that really is a non factor.

what size furnace?

thx for the info guys. tiger, the model of the furnace is American Standard AUY080R9V3W (i wouldn't bother looking for a qualifying match for the tax credit. my understanding is that this furnace is not listed in the AHRI info any longer.) i purchased it new last year and had it installed. our home is quite comfy in the winter with all the other stuff we added at about the same time. it has dual stage (48,000/73,000) heat with comfort-R variable fan. at the time we had it installed i couldn't find a HP/coil combo that would qualify. now, it is time to do the HP. i just want the best combo of HP and coil for 2.5T. should i consider an oversized coil (like a 3T)? just curious as to the exact system you would recommend. my Trane dealer also carries AmStd so I will inquire about the 15.

looks like we're going with the AmStd Heritage 15 HP. Which cased coil is recommended for 2.5T and 3.0T?

post the evap coil model numbers.

I would want a coil that fits flush with your furnace and gives the best combination of cooling BTUs, heating BTUs, EER,SEER, and HSPF efficiencies.

Your dealer can provide this info easily with a quick call to their local AmStd distributor. The numbers are available.

My local HVAC installer recommended going with AmStd instead of Trane in order to get the same hardware, but less expensively. For a 3.0T unit and coil, he is quoting 4TXCC037BC3HCA coil with 4AGH5036B1000A for $3481 installed. Is this a good deal? I checked the part number for the HP on the AmStd site at it does not end in '1000A'. It is simply listed as 4A6H5036E. Why the '1000A' on the end of the pump my contractor is quoting?

Don't get the VisionProIAQ - get the NEW Prestige IAQ , same type of stat only under their new platform. The old VisionPro style may already be on its way out.

At the very least, its getting a face lift.

I already have the visionpro IAQ and don't plan to replace it. TigerDunes and others, what about the pricing above and the question about the model number?

I notice in your first post that you said load calc indicated a 2 1/2 ton yet it appears you have decided on a three ton Heritage 15. Is that correct?

now to the mdl number. sometimes these mdl numbers for the outside condenser can get down in the weeds. the suffix is what you pay attention to. the latest version of the Heritage 15 is the following: 4A6H5036E and this is the one I would want. Changes within a model usually indicate an improvement or a minor correction.

I am a numbers guy. For your situation, I would want the coil that gives the best balance of BTUs both cooling and heating, SEER,EER, and HSPF.

I used the 80K XV95 for matching purposes in the AHRI Directory.

It should be pointed out that both have mediocre HSPF efficiency which unfortunately is a drawback with Trane/AmStd furnace configurations.

I totally understand what you are attempting to accomplish. If this was me, I would ask dealer to call his AmStd rep and get the exact numbers for your configuation with specically your furnace. Pointedly, the question to ask is there a better coil selection for your application that will offer better numbers and if so, provide all the numbers.

Now to the HW VP IAQ. No need to replace. How do you intend to control the heat pump and furnace operation? I would add the HW outdoor sensor to accomplish this.

Finally, I think the pricing you have received is quite reasonable.

thank you Tiger! the info was very helpful. we are actually 0.5T heavy on cooling (b/c I specifically requested a -25ÃÂ draw down capacity in 95ÃÂ heat with a SW facing home) in order to get some extra capacity on the heating side during the winter. if i'm reading the numbers correctly, it looks like the 4TXCC037BC3 coil would be 400 BTU's better on heat. your thoughts?

refer back to my post of Wed Sept 29.

my approach on coils is to select the best balance of performance/eff numbers. Balance is the key word.

while I take note of the extra heating BTUs of the heat pump with 4TXCC037BC3 coil, that amount is really inconsequential for two reasons.

1.you will most likely be using nat gas at that temperature.
2.by your own admission, you are already oversizing the heat pump anyway by 1/2 ton.

the 4TXCC044BC3 evap coil gives you 1K extra cooling BTUs, a better EER, and an extra SEER. make the comparison.

Go back to above statement.

3T AmerStd 15 HP unit is in, but contractor said he could not get system to work with my IAQ VisionPro. We stepped up from AC only to a HP. Furnace is AmStd dual stage with Comfort R. He put a VisionPro 8000 tstat on. Is this a good one? What about humidifier and variable fan speed control? I thought the IAQ was a better tstat. Contractor is authorized Trane and has a good reputation.

i did some more research on the 8000 and it does not do humidity control in the winter. utilizing the comfort-r on my furnace, it only does -3ÃÂ adjustment to AC setting in the summer to get rid of extra humidity, but does not control humidity in the winter. needless to say, i'm more than peeved at this point. now i'm back to my old clunky standalone humidistat mounted on the ductwork in the basement. my contractor is the owner of his own company and is the one who installed my system and admits he is not familiar with IAQ. should i insist that he come back out and re-wire the IAQ back to original or would you let it go and chalk it up for experience? if i should insist he come back out, but he tells me he can't get the IAQ to work, is there anyone in central OH (in Marysville) who can come out and hook me back up to my IAQ? current system is:

AmStd 2-stage gas furnace with comfort-R
AmStd 15 HP
AprilAire 5000 E/S Air Cleaner w/ controller
Calutech 2x60w UV
Humidifier (solenoid on stack)

congrats on the 2-stage gas and heatpump system!! That will be one nice comfy and super efficient system.

I peronally don't think its a big deal. Humidity should be at a reasonable level if your using your system to heat and cool your house and units are sized right.

I notice the heatpump doesn't do much 'drying out the place' when it runs since its not extremely hot heat. I don't know about your gas furnace but when mine engages is always does a 'set' amount of humdity based upon a dial on the aprilaire.

The HW VP IAQ is a great stat for dual fuel systems. you would require matching outdoor temperature sensor. It also has "DOD" feature-dehumidify on demand for handling superior humidity removal in the summer. And finally, it has the capability to handle auxilliary equipment like humidifier without the necessity of a separate control.
That would be the control that I would want.

If your dealer is truly a good competent dealer, he will do his homework and exchange the stat out for the VP IAQ.

A Trane or AmStd distributor has a residential specialist on their staff who could help him with the VP IAQ. I have some doubts about what is really going on here. Sometimes, dealers will do what is easiest for them, not what is best for their customer.

The only change last week was to swap the old 10-seer AC out for the AmStd 15 HP, new line set, new coil. Contractor said he couldn't get the IAQ to control the HP properly and he switched the stat to a VPro 8000 for no charge. He said he tried everything, all to no avail, but wasn't specific as to the exact issue. I have contacted him since then to find out what the specific issue was, but have not received a response on that. I too have doubts as to what is going on. Anyone else have a similar issue like mine?
