Home again, anyone sick of this yet...

Well went in yesterday in pain since the night before.I was sure that it was another kidney stone, I hurt that bad. So I waited until a neighbor could come over and help with the kids but she had to leave early so my mom came to the rescue ( thank you mom ,super mom) and left a wrestling meet she was helping at to come up this way. Well no kidney stone, but I have a kidney infection, and my colon was infected too. So they made me stay and I got out this afternoon after 3 doses of antibiotics and pain meds. I am feeling better, also had some potassium and with my history of low potasium I am going on that regularly and another week of antibiotics. The one I was on last week for UTI didn't work and just gave it another week to build up in my body and in combo with gallbladder adjusting it was a mess. So one thing I learned long ago, when in pain on a Saturday and going to the clinic, wear comfy clothes because if you are serious enough they will send you to the hospital and won't let you go home. Here is hoping that February will be a better month.

Oh Stacie, I am sending good, soft thoughts your way!

Never had a problem with my kidneys (knock on wood) but I had a severe transient colitis infection the year Eric and I got married. Was the only time I was ever in the hospital and I was so sick. Hope things get better soon!

Stacie, is there ever a week without chaos or drama in your household? I don't know how you do it. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I am a 62yr old who has been hunting with dogs all my life. We are trying to prevent heartworms here...correct...??? For the past 37yrs I have been using a bottle of heart worm prevention I get for $25.00 but I usually buy 5 bottles for $100.00. I get it from this place JR Enterprises at www.heartwormprevention.com The company is in Louisiana where there is no shortage of mosquitos. One of my male dogs who did not have heartworms brought a female hound home. I was unable to find the owner so I kept her. This female was infested with heartworms. She had a dry and ugly coat. I administered the heartworm preventative at 1/4cc per 20lb of body weight. The female weighed 80lbs so I gave her 1cc the 1st of every month. Within 3 months her coat began to shine and look good. After 6 months I had her tested for heartworms at the vet and I was astonished after finding out...NO TRACE OF HEARTWORMS WHATSOEVER. ..They were completely eradicated. This was 14yrs ago. I still have this hound today and she is going strong. I can vouch for this heartworm preventative. I use it on all my dogs and they are heartworm free.

I WS'd them in '07, had four sprouts, planted them out that spring, and as others mentioned they didn't seem to do much that first year. 2nd year, I decided I didn't have them in the right spot, so I dug them up and moved them ... twice. As a result, I lost two of them. The two remaining ones finally put on some growth this past year, and I got one bloom stalk. I'm giving them one more year to prove themselves. Where I used to live (other side of the state) there was a house that had them planted in a strip between the sidewalk and their backyard fence, mulched in river rock. Very hot and dry location, and they were HUGE, and gorgeous when in bloom. I think it may be a matter of finding the right spot for them, where they can really shine. Bonnie

Yes, As far as enconimics go, canning your own beans must be very inexpensive....if you have the pressure canner and jars etc. Was just prowling the net for dried bean information and found this entertaining account. This zany enthusiast was also searching for "best bean." http://rec.mailarchive.ca/food.cooking/2006-04/12838.html While he just wanted to cook beans for a meal, not storage, the upshot of this account is that pressure cooking the beans in a canning jar did the best job! Doesn't surprise me, home canned beans are the best I've had. Got a big bag of red beans for experimentation this weekend. Cheers

I am in the Christmas business as a season flower grower and wholesaler. Can you just imagine what Easter, Christmas and Memorial day is like for me? LOL. Add to that my son's birthday a week before Christmas, our anniversary two days before Christmas, and my daughter's anniversary a two weeks after Christmas. This year? The lowest key and most relaxing in twenty years or more. My beautiful new daughter-in-law insists on doing the Christmas meal at the farm herself, and this with a full time job and a new baby in tow. I am in semi-retirement now and kept our orders very modest this year for poinsettias and greenery. The immediate family has started the draw a name gift exchange and that makes the hoardes of gifts redundant. Hubby and I buy for each other sometimes or get a joint gift, and we slip a little cash to the kids and g'kids in a card in addtition to the one name each of us pull for the exchange. I started baking early and I gave them out early. Already done and consumed. LOL. I did every iota of Christmas shopping online and hopefully early enough it'll all get here. I have the cards done and mailed including those going to England. My tree went up the first of December. I love Sharon's attitude. So many years everything seemed to land in my lap for the holidays. Don't get me wrong, when I was a young thing, the challenge was exciting.....but somewhere the fun turned into stress. That's not what Christmas is about.

FWIW - DH had his gallbladder removed in June of last year. Had several infections, admissions to hospital, etc. Upshot was that when the GB was removed a stone got loose and blocked the bile duct. It was finally removed in November via endoscope and he's been fine ever since. Apparently, this is not uncommon..............

It is still crazy at home, but just normal crazy. It sure feels good to be home again. I am sure glad they let me out, they were planning on me staying another day.

V-8 tomato juice is a good source for potassium. It keeps other function flowing too. V-8 tomato juice has other vegtables in it as well.

I buy my V-8 from Sams Club. I can get 2 large jugs for less than $6. Buying it in small containers at a grocery store is pricey.

Make sure that you refrigerate it after opening. I store my supply in the refigerator before it is opened. That way, its cold at first opening, and I prefer it cooled.

Banana or orange juice is a good source of potassium too. I do love V-8, especially with a little shake of pepper.
