Mini-Split Ductless Heat Pump
Comments (3)Mini Splits have been around for years++. What U hear about them are how incompetent installers install them. Try www.mitsubishicomfort.com/ the best ..they have some very good systems. Make sure you talk to a mitsubishi rep. not a hvac contractor first. asked the rep to refer U to one of there best contractors...thats the best way to "get it right" These are pricey products. But excellent. They have systems that have one outdoor sections and upto 8 indoor coils. As far as heating with hot air into one room this is not a solution. As far as concrete floors...thats what is horrible! I just finished redoing a floor. Replaced the entire house with Platon, and hardwood....See MoreRecommendations on Mini-Split Ductless Heat Pump for Garage
Comments (6)Differing opinions on mini split heatpumps but most would agree that Mitsubishi makes excellent equipment although it tends to be pricier than some other Japanese brands. Other Japanese brands...Fujitsu, Sharp, Panasonic and Daikin come to mind. Probably even more important than brand is making sure it will be installed by a reputable HVAC company familiar with that brand and that has been in business for many years and will be there in the future to assist in honoring any warranty issues and service calls. I'm surprised that your garage doesn't get significantly warmer or colder than the temperatures you reported. Would think when temps go down to the low 20's your garage wouldn't be as high as 60 degree. Is your garage door insulated? As inverter type mini splits can throttle back on their output I'd be inclined to purchase a 24,000 btu model that should easily handle your large garage when temps reach high 90's or low 20's outside. If in the dead of winter your garage really doesn't get below 60 degrees and in the heat of summer not above mid 80's you could probably get by with an 15,000 btu to 18,000 btu model....See MoreMini-Split Heat Pump for Garage - Please weigh in on the quote
Comments (5)Not familiar with Trane in mini splits but a few comments. I would not be overly concerned about oversizing as inverter mini splits can vary their output. As an example a 24,000 (2 ton) Mitsubishi heatpump model shows in their brochure as being able to throttle down to as low as 8200 btu (.7 tons) and go as high as 2.6 tons. The blower can vary it's flow from 388 cfm to 738 cfm. Typical AC systems have 1 speed that the compressor operates at (although there are more expensive systems that can operate at two or more speeds) . If indeed you purchased a larger system than needed in an inverter mini split it would operate at a lower effective tonnage and not present a problem. Be aware that purchasing a unit over the internet will in most cases result in no warranty. Also, installing the unit yourself will in most cases void any warranty that there might be. Regarding price a 2 ton major brand inverter heatpump mini split with a straightforward installation including a new 220 electrical line might be in the $3750 to $4500 range from an HVAC company....See MoreYork mini split heatpump
Comments (44)No one is going to decide for you, sorry. Here is yet another way of looking at it. Your calculations for the hot part of the home is 6400 BTU for 500 sq so that leaves (9000-6400) 2600 BTU for the cooler part. That is 12.8/sq BTU for the part with more heat generators and perhaps the sunny side. If you take the 2600 BTU that is "left over" that is 7.9 BTU/sq for the part of the home that has less heat-generating stuff. 9000 seems like enough. Roadking is right, though, only 9% difference in the minima between the two so it probably won't make that much difference in humidity control at low load. You'll probably be happy either way....See MoreRelated Professionals
