Mini-Split Heat Pump for Garage - Please weigh in on the quote
Comments (5)Not familiar with Trane in mini splits but a few comments. I would not be overly concerned about oversizing as inverter mini splits can vary their output. As an example a 24,000 (2 ton) Mitsubishi heatpump model shows in their brochure as being able to throttle down to as low as 8200 btu (.7 tons) and go as high as 2.6 tons. The blower can vary it's flow from 388 cfm to 738 cfm. Typical AC systems have 1 speed that the compressor operates at (although there are more expensive systems that can operate at two or more speeds) . If indeed you purchased a larger system than needed in an inverter mini split it would operate at a lower effective tonnage and not present a problem. Be aware that purchasing a unit over the internet will in most cases result in no warranty. Also, installing the unit yourself will in most cases void any warranty that there might be. Regarding price a 2 ton major brand inverter heatpump mini split with a straightforward installation including a new 220 electrical line might be in the $3750 to $4500 range from an HVAC company....See MoreDuctless Mini-split air conditioning
Comments (2)Thanks for your help, zL700; I like your link for SlimDuct enclosure, much better than my idea for 3"-4" pvc pipe! I plead guilty to a LOT of sharing! Once one reads all the way to the end, my question in the first line was 'history' : "Can anyone support my argument that it is ample to use a dual split unit for just the front two bedroom's? " This would save both cost and a difficult condenser install location. In short: We have a MrSlim MSZ-A17NA single-split 17 Kbtu unit for the 3rd floor finished attic, and a conventional 28 Kbtu ducted unit on the first floor. Our calculated 50 degree day heat loss for the entire house is 48 Kbtu, of which the two rear small bedrooms are only 5 Kbtu each. I have agreed to put in a dual-split 9+9 or 12+12 for the two 2nd floor front bedrooms. Shouldn't this effectively cool the entire 2nd floor? I need technical, experienced opinion to support my desire to avoid having to put in a 3rd condenser in the larger of the two rear bedrooms. Comments (3)The Serial number of the unit in question doesn't lie, but those offering up excuses after the fact probably will. Either to save their own face, soothe your feelings or a little of both. Bigger companies with ample warehouse space often times buy up large quantities of equipment. America is currently built by selling as much of a particular item all at once instead of 'one at a time'. They do this because they marginally get better prices than buying just one thing at a time. Why every time you see an infomercial selling something they tell you can get 2 for the price of 1, for an additional fee. You buy in bulk and you get a marginally better price for buying more. However, this isn't as great as it seems when it comes to HVAC equipment & warranty related trouble. The more space you have the more over head you have so unless you are actually moving the equipment (which often times does not occur) you wind up with a warehouse full of old equipment. Hopefully this doesn't mean used or some other situation. Plus on top of all that taxes on that in stock equipment take a good bite out of what kind of deal they think they are getting by buying in bulk. If they are moving the equipment (only then) does it work. People see this type of thing a mile away... (when it becomes all about selling new equipment) then everything and any thing becomes a case for replacing the equipment instead of repairing it. While true the warranty would still be valid, in theory you can read any manufacturer warranty fine print and 'if' a start up date can not be determined said manufacturer will only give you probably not more than 90 days from the date code within the serial number. It might be as little as 60 days from the date code. So as an example: if the unit was made in April 2015, was properly registered and installed in 2019 the recorded time is in the hands of manufacturer and their validation systems. If you lose that start up paper work, you could get swindled out of it. Because the serial number doesn't lie, that is why. If the unit was not registered and installed in 2019 the warranty is reduced to 5 years which should be 2024, but because the serial number doesn't lie and there is no record of when the install occurred other than paper work. Well this is how people lose. Under this possible scenario the unit would be out of warranty by the end of this month. (Unit made in 2015, installed in 2019 and not registered... good luck trying to get that honored by Carrier. I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole.) Due to the serial number, they would likely claim you are lying. Carrier equipment is a pain to do any warranty claim for. So the odds are you lose, by default. This is how it works from someone who actually files warranty claims on equipment failures. Circa 2020. I buy equipment only after you put a deposit on it... in most cases 99% of the time it is fresh off the factory floor. On rare occasion it might be 1.5 years old. Meaning instead of current year, it's previous year made. I service the Katy, Texas area....See MoreMini Split Brands - which one to select?
Comments (30)"baseless propaganda"? There wasn't a single item stated to warrant such an irresponsible response. Dismissing a truthful message and then attacking the messenger in such a patronizing manner is a common protocol for one living as a cartoon character elitist in a faux fairyland euphoria so it wasn't offensive and expected. You're right, people aren't going to stop using air conditioning but at some point many will lose the entitlement to use it. Some prefer to stay ignorant to a lot of things while they sit in front of the air conditioner with total complacency, unaware their entitlement is on the chopping block. It's all by design so Lets jump back 10 years, California seeks control of thermostats and then three years ago Let PGE control your thermostat and last year. PGE time of use plan. In this case the past has given a picture of the future, and 82 degrees will be the setting because they swallowed the propaganda from their masters, but the funny thing is California told everyone what they're going to do 10 years ago but the free cool-aide was so sweet it was missed. By the way 18,000 businesses have left California over the last 10 years and Oracle and Hewitt Packard are in the process of moving out. HP was the first Tech corner stone in silicon valley and will be a sad day for California but those 2400 good HP jobs aren't needed in the state, right?.
