Are Miele & Bosch the only good DW brands out there?
Comments (51)We bought the KA KUDS30IVSS in October 2009. It does not have the venting issue that another KA DW line did. The store we purchased from carried Miele and KA as their 'top' lines. I thought the Miele had a wonderful build quality, but my dishes and cookware simply did not fit. I have a lot of oversized cookware that will literally take up half a rack with one piece. Some of it is tall and was a really difficult fit. The KA had a much more flexible arrangement, and in that respect has worked out very well for us. When the phosphates were removed from detergents in Jan 2011, I had some cleaning issues that went away when I switched to Finish, as recommended on this forum. The KA DW is definitely a little noisier now than it was before. 'Noise' is always subjective, but we have an open plan in a small house, and both upstairs (where the DW resides) and downstairs (it is above our master bath) it can now be noticed when the DW is running, whereas before it was almost unnoticeable. We had recurring issues with the soap dispenser unit which was documented here in other threads, so I won't repeat myself. Poor repairman competence was a major contributing factor to a nine-month saga of why we are on our fourth dispenser unit. I was told by the original installer that these DWs have an issue with the pump unit failing after about three years. He congratulated us on getting the extended warranty and certainly it was of great use during the dispenser problem. Now that Miele has finally recognized they need a more flexible loading arrangement, when this KA fails - not if it will fail, but WHEN - we can replace it with a Miele. The KA is good, but it is nowhere near the build quality of Miele. From the plastic hinges to the rickety sprayer arms, KA just can't compare....See MoreNEW Bosch Dishwashers with Cutlery Rack
Comments (27)Yes, but if that "one" flooded your living room and dining room, both of which had expensive carpet installed 6 months earlier ... it would become a defining moment for you too, lascatx. The dish drawers have been flawless, but they do have a moisture alarm on the floor beneath them. The reason the flood happened? During the night a brain fart happened (in the dishwasher) and water kept filling and flooding out the dishwasher because there was no ability to electronically drain the water. So when DH went to the kitchen to make coffee the next morning, slosh! slosh! We were not happy campers, especially since that dishwasher was about a year old....See MoreBosch Next 300 leaking from the bottom
Comments (2)If they are anything like the Nexxt 500, the first thing you want to do is unplug the machine from it's electric connection. Do this immediately. Remove the back panel from the machine. This will probably take a star-drive with a hole in the center, found at auto parts stores. The drain hoses on these machines are connected near the top of the machine with a push-on type connection, not a locking connection. These can work their way loose over time, particularly if you have moved them. Unfortunately, the drain hose (if it's like the 500) is located directly over the control board with only a small guard. Push the hose back into place until it clicks - it takes some effort. Get some rubbing alcohol, 90%, and pour it over the control board and any electrical connections - make sure it gets everywhere. This will clear any water and detergent residue out of the connections and assist with the drying process without hurting anything. Place a fan blowing into the machine and let it dry thoroughly before trying to start the machine up again and see if it works correctly. If it doesn't, it would be cheaper to replace the machine than to repair it....See MoreGutterGuards vs other systems
Comments (12)That's ok Jen :) The type of sales tactic / pitch that you received seems to becoming more common. I can almost guarantee you that if you call reputable company's out of the phone book in your area, you will get a good quality product, and you may be shocked at how much lower the price may be, I'm just speculating. When I give a quote to a customer, I always encourage them to get three bids to make sure they are getting a fair price. There are alot of these same type of company's in our area too, that are canvassing the neighborhood setting appointments and sending out the high pressure salesmen. We don't operate that way. I'm not saying that all of these types of company's are shisters but you just have to be careful. Most of the time these company's won't even come out if both the husband and wife are not there, that way you can't blame it on your husband or he can't say well I need to talk it over with my wife when it comes down to the decision making. Usually when these company's want both of you home you can almost always expect a high pressure sales presentation. I think alot of these company's or salesmen rather realize that you may not call them back once you do your homework and find out how much price gouging had took place during their presentation, I only say that because I think the price you received was way high unless you have an unusual home. I'm not affiliated with Alcoa other than we just install their products in our local areas here but when it comes time, you can contact Alcoa via their web site at www.AlcoaHomes.com and request a list of contractors that can perform the same type of work in your area that you are looking for or you can obviously go to your local yellow pages. If you have any other questions just post them here or email me. Thanks...See MoreRelated Professionals
