I think I might just survive! LOL

End of last week was spent overcoming the miserable side effect of narcotic medication- extreme constipation. I have decided that if what I went through is even a TINY bit like childbirth, it is a GOOD thing I never had kids!!!!! Yes they eased the pain but I am sure something a little less risky would have done as or almost as good (the MDs were the ones that decided to put me on them vs something else). I think next time (based on the past 6 months, there will a next time), I will ask for another type of pain killer or at least a anti-constipation medicine to take with it. After three days on the medication the MD gave me to correct the problem, last night I reached the other end of the spectrum! Was supposed to take it for a month, I think I will keep it around in case I need it but will NOT be taking it twice a day! Still on crutches and cannot get to the bathroom that quick, lol.

Yesterday was my first day out other than MD appointments and it went well. Eric went back to work today and I decided to venture out a bit. Went to CVS and got myself a rubber doughnut to sit on. Balked at the price of $20 (its JUST a doughnut!) but decided I wasn't in much of a position to price. Blew it up and sat on it while I was at Burger King and decided it was $20 well paid, lol. Sat there for almost 2 hours reading homework without any major pain! I have placed it in a pillowcase to hide the BRIGHT red color of the rubber. Will be hauling this thing around with me for the foreseeable future. Tomorrow will be the real test of how I feel after two days venturing out.

A coworker is planning to visit Monday evening and bring supper. Looking forward to that, especially since Eric will have been gone for several days by then. Snow is predicted for Wed and I need to be on campus. Should be interesting!

I found a good easy remedy. Each time you take a pain pill, eat a prune. That should help you. Sue who wishes she had a strong pain pill right now.

Sounds like everything is going so well. Hooray!

Sometimes I just think there are no deals at CVS, but they are not too different from the other major drugstore chains. It chokes you to pay $20 for something like the pillow, but in the end you'll agree it was worth every cent.

Well Tracy, I just don't understand why so much moving the pebbles in & out. Seems pointless (to me) & too time consuming (I've got abt 200 plants & work fulltime). If one topwaters (even if carefully), one can just water to overflow into the pebbles. Moving the pebbles in & out like that seems too much work & time consuming, I have FAR too many plants for all that time & work. If you're dead set against topwatering (can I pls. ask why?), what abt just topwatering when fertilizing & then just twice a month is really all that's needed. As to fertlizers, if you've just started w/ them, why not use them EXACTLY as directed but only once or twice a month, May thru Oct.? Barring unusual plants (or winter growers), that's really all that's needed. If you're fertilzing sort of weakly, weekly (as many Orchid growers do), I'm doubtful that's a great idea for non-orchids; just my opinion. I have nurtured many weeds over the years. I almost never pull seedlings unless I know for sure they are weeds. Over the last few years, I have ultimately nutured a few strange things, one real surprise one year was about 6 weeks after a particular seedling sprouted, I finally identified it as pumpkin! It was a volunteer from a pumpkin that was placed in the garden at Halloween! I probably could have identified it earlier then 6 weeks, but never in a million years did it cross my mind that is what it could be, as we never "grew" pumpkins in our front garden before! The first year I grew poppies from seed I was glad I did not pull out my weeds too early! They where my Poppies! lol... I wonder how many people that direct sow seeds are disapointed when they don't see the fruits of their efforts, only because they weeded them out at some point! I think you should let these grow a bit more. Keep an eye on them, it is too early to tell yet!

Well the weather report we just watched said that we have a chance of frost in Grove. Intellicast.com is showing 36 as the low for tonight. I have covered what I can cover and I may have a few things lost if we get a frost, but there isn't much else I can do. I pulled the cages off some container tomatoes and covered them with two layers of insect barrier row cover, I covered the beans the best way I could but since most are already climbing, they are hard to cover. I put flat sheets of cardboard on each side of the trellis and pulled the tops together and clipped them together with clothes pins. Some bean plants I couldn't cover. I had put in 4 eggplants this week that are about 6-8 inches tall, but I put them in the holes where broccoli plants had been eaten by something (before it was covered) so they are under an Agribon low tunnel. I have good sized squash which is also under a low tunnel and I just threw a sheet over some of the bed since the temp is already down to 42. They are saying 'frost' not 'freeze' so maybe I will be OK with most things. Most of the tomato plants have a flower pot turned down over them, but they are getting wide enough to touch the edges. The ones that got the row cover over them were too tall for a flower pot to cover. Most of the tomato plants are looking really good so it would be terrible to have to start over at this point. I only have two plants that aren't looking good. One is a Tess's Landrace that has a million little holes in the leaves and the other is a Green Zebra that just doesn't seem to be thriving. I have a replacement for both, but hate to take them out if I don't need to. It looks like we will be in the 40-60 range every night after this one, through the end of the month. Surely we can relax when May arrives. It may take me an hour to uncover everything in the morning, but if it is still green then it will all be worth it.

You might also try stool softeners next time. Prunes are good too.

I'm not sure from your post exactly what your situation is and maybe the doughnut is the best solution, but here is a tip for anyone who may consider buying one.

Try just using a rolled up towel. Roll it up and bend it into a circle or a 'U'. This may work for your needs and you save $20.

Another cheaper solution is to get one of those 'U' shaped neck pillows and use it for sitting.

Actually, except for the crutches, that sounds a little like how I spent the first few days after the birth of my first child. So you're on to something with the comparison, Janie. ;o) I had stitches from "you know where to you know where" and that doughnut pillow was my best friend! LOL.

Sorry you had to go through this, but I'm glad you're at least on the path back to normal. A bet a trip to BK never felt so good!

think the prune idea is a good one...or maybe the new juice...
