Cathedral Window Treatment

Does anyone have any input on window treatments for a double window with a cathedral window over them in a kitchen? This is a very old pic. The walls are now SW Bittersweet Stem. There is absolutely nothing on windows, the china cabinet is removed, and there is cabinets down the right wall. The pic is just for reference of the window. I Love the View and hate to put anything at all on it but it faces West and the evening sun blinds you when you sit there.

Does the glaring sun come from the top part as well as from below? If not, I'd do a rod across the top of the square windows and drapes (or sheers) to the floor. If the sun also comes through the arched window, you could try something like an arched window blind, linked below. (I've never had these so can't vouch for performance.)

Vanessa, that Cathedral Windows of mine is brand new. It was at least 4 weeks behind the rest of my hosta. It came from the frozen north when they could finally ship. It must have been almost May when it came. It was just small pips when I got it. My hosta came up in March. Everything was up by April 15. We're always a month or more ahead of the Northernmost climes. Ours bloom earlier. The second flush comes by June 1. Right now, I have open blooms on LS Shore Master and Olive Bailey Langdon. I have scapes on lots of plants. We're just way ahead of you guys. bk

Phil, if that cement is your driveway, I say it is just about ON the driveway not merely hanging over it. I got one about two weeks ago, and it hasn't skipped a beat, going great guns and is looking so good. Of course, it is a fine member of the plantaginea family of fragrant hosta. If you can wait until it gets dormant to move it, choose a spot where its good looks, beautiful blooms, and bright color can be seen by folks coming to your front door. It's a "front yard" sort of hosta.

Jo, you always reward us with your attentive eye. Thank you for making the report. I look, but do not see the things you do. The most I had this year were my observations of scapes with bracts, and branched scapes. Also with reblooming by Sugarbabe that was the last hosta of summer. Now I'm harvesting seedpods. Some have black seedwings, others have white seedwings. I love the way the pods look as they pop open.

What size windows - 10' + Cathedral Ceiling

We are doing 10' ceilings on the first floor and our windows are 6' tall. 24" off the floor so they do not have to be tempered and then 2' down to allow for header along with crown and trim. This also puts the window height on par with the 8' doors. We opted for 6' windows rather than the 5' with 1' transoms per our architects drawings it added about 50% to the cost of the window. Not worth it to me. Also, depending on how the sun shines in there could be a strong glare during parts of the year in your example. Depending on how high your ceiling goes up, you should be fine.
