I got mine in glass. Lots of cute little former jelly glasses. mine are alphabetically, thus, I can always find them. But I do have two shelves, one for baking stuff, the other for everything else. ;)

I have a narrow pull out drawer with two shelves that is built into my cabnets. That drawer and my pots and pans pull out drawers are my favorites. I also had a narrow compartment for lids and cookie sheet put in them. Those are my three favorites.

Mine are sitting right out on the counter. We chose our backsplash to match the spice rack (or so it seems). LOL

I'm tired of digging for mine too. I wish I could find a spice rack that fits over the pantry door (inside) for extra storage.

I keep most of mine in the fridge. I replace them just about the second or third time I use them, because I don't cook very much any more. I wanted to cook some beans today but didn't have any cumin seeds...would have sworn I bought some a week or so ago. Guess I will have to cook them tomorrow.

My spices are in the store containers they came in, alphabetically arranged on a small lazy susan in a cabinet near the cooktop.

I leave mine in the original bottles, but label the top with what it is... that way I don't have to get down on my kness and rummage through mine which are on a lazy-susan type thing in a lower cabinet.

I also store my alphabetically (like chisue) on a narrow shelf in my pantry. Shelf is 2" deep - perfect size!

Friends make fun of me for being so anal, but I gotta tell ya I just love being able to find any spice I need in mere seconds!

That's a huge no-no with spices. I just can't see throwing money away like that--even though I order from Penzey's spices still cost enough that it's really worth storing them correctly to get the most out of them.

I keep mine in the bags they come in, in a container that DOESN'T LET LIGHT IN--a big plastic opaque bin about the size of maybe 3 shoe boxes--in a dark cupboard. I keep the bags standing upright, savory spices in one row, baking ones in the other, in alphabetical order.

The less light you can let get to them the longer your spices will stay fresh and pretty. Light ruins the flavor and color.

And I never let them hang around longer than 6-8 months. They deteriorate too quickly.

angelaid, my spices are in 5 narrow drawers. I've kept them alphabetized for years - it really helps me see what I have or am running low on.

toni, I love that spice stacker. First cabinet for spices I've seen that seems to work well. I may have to rethink my spice drawers.

I keep my spices in original containers and I alphabetize them in the cupboard. Trouble is when family members cook and use them, nothing is put back right. I have all sorts of containers--metal "square" ones, jars of all sizes, and then when I buy a spice in a cellophane sack, I use the old can or bottle that I just emptied to store them. I do NOT throw out spices after a year. That has got to be one of the best sales programs that spice companies promote. If the spice is so old that I think it may have lost some flavor, I just add a little more. After cooking for more than 45 years, I do have many spices, but by alphabetizing them, I avoid duplicate purchases and can find what I want right away.

I alphabetize mine too, in their original containers, on a very old Rubbermaid turntable (with a smaller one on top) on top of a storage chest in a dark corner of the kitchen. I have some very old spices, and probably should throw them out..but have found that just adding a bit more yields the flavor I want. I will NOT throw out expensive spices because they have lost some of their potency. I even have some in glass bottles with metal lids! Shame on me!

The spices are all in a cupboard. They are in no logical arrangement. I have to pull out 15 before I find the one I want.

Rubbermaid lazy susan with the labels facing out and the ones used most often in the outer ring. Duplicates (for those about to run out) and seldom used spices are in the middles of the ring. Everything is in the original container except those bought in baggies and those are put in glass jars reused with their labels removed.

I had a cabinet special made for my spices when we had the house built. The cabinet maker called it a johnny cabinet. I have it mounted on the wall...I keep the spices in the original containers.
