Oh I dread this months bill. I have really had the heat cranked up since I have been home this month....and I have been cold so I am sure I will freak when it comes...we are total ele. so I dread it! Stacy

We've had a few chilly days. But, we have also had days when we open windows for fresh air and sunshine. So, ours want be to bad. Plus, we use the fireplace and wrap in blankets in the evenings. We like to sleep cool.

Same as last year and the year before that--almost zero! We heat our home (also our hot water and our spa) with wood from our property. Except for electricity to pump water through the pipes and hydronic tubing, our heating bill is absolutely nothing.

Of course, our electric bill is still at least $80 each month for the lights, computers, TV, fridge, dryer, etc. When we use the electric forced air heat (like when we're on vacation), the bill goes up quite a bit.

My latest gas bill was $135... heat & hot water for a 2400 sq ft house.

I dread the next bill. They filled the tank with oil early in the season, and I expected to write a check for $250 or so. It was over $600!

We are geothermal (total electric) and our bill was around $150.

Last bill was just under $120, but have had the heat cranked up to 70, at times the kids have put it higher. Last night I came home from work and it was 74!!! We're all electric: heatpump

We burn wood so the furnace rarely runs. We are all electric though and our bill is usually just over $100. the winter months.

They sent a statement out last month with our last years usage. For some reason we are using half as much electricity as we did last year. My DD went off to college, but I don't think she used that much electricity???!

We have both, an electric (indoor) and wood outdoor furnace. We use the electric furnace when it starts getting cool to take the chill off and then start the wood one when it gets colder. We keep the electric one turned on and thermostat down to 65° so if the wood furnace gets low on wood, the other kicks on.
Our electric bill for Dec was $112, and I used my clothes dryer a lot where I usually hang them out to dry. Also, the wood furnace uses electricity for the blower to run.

funny you should ask....we live in NW GA...temp here last night was 17 degrees...wind chill I don't even wanna think about it, but to answer your question....on Christmas Eve (what a wonderful gift) propane truck slipped into my driveway while I wasn't looking and filled our propane tank to the tune of $350.00...hubby came in with the bill explaining that "Santa came early and left us a little something" Whew...property taxes were due and paid week before Christmas and now this....there is just no getting ahead with gas at $3.00 a gallon for regular....I just can't imagine anymore what it would be like to have "$$ leftover at the end of the month" just thankful we don't drink, do drugs or smoke...because if that were the case, we certainly couldn't afford to EAT even beans and taters as my granny would say!

My electric bill runs about the same winter and summer.Averages about $350. a month.I try to keep the thermostat at about 72 year round but sometimes in the winter I find it turned up higher.LOL DH is very cold natured.I live in a double wide mobile home and they are not very energy efficient,no matter what the salesman tells you!LOL We are hoping to sell soon and downsize a bit,hopefully to my mom and dads old house built in 1952.We will have to remodel and add on but will make it as energy efficient as possible.

I am on equal pay, but I am afraid what my bill will go up too. It has been so cold and I have been feeling the cold to my core... So the heater has been cranked to 75 to 80, when I normally have it about 65...

I know that electric rates vary around the country, but my mom tried something different this year. They have central heat (propane), and she was horrified at how quickly they used propane last winter. This year, they turned the thermostat down on the central heat and bought several new space heaters for rooms they use most. Her latest electric bill stayed very near the same as this time last year - the difference is that they didn't use a half tank of propane!

It's been very cold here, but I suspect our next bill will be about $75, since we burn a lot of wood in our wood stove. We are all electric and in the summer to cool our 3-floor house it runs about $110, winter is usually lower. We work hard to get enough wood to last us the winter, we cut up fallen or dead trees all spring and into the summer so we don't have to depend on the heat pump in the cold months.

I hate winter!

A friend told me about another friend who didn't use natural gas furnace at all during winter of 2005/2006- instead used 2 Quartz Elec. heaters in her 2100' home (maybe a little smaller/larger, can't recall exactly) with very lttle increase in electric bill.

We both rushed out to get them & are SO pleased. Keeps my DH from cranking furnace to 84. I paid $39.99 for the little jewel...and it is a jewel! Unlike the old type I used in my office some years ago that was too darned expensive to run. The quartz one keeps our L/R/Family room & kitchen combo warm as toast, and only about $20. a month increase in our bill.

We can't stand cold weather & getting out of the shower in the cold is downright painful, so we use the ol' fasioned gas wall heater to warm it up.

I'm like okwriter's Mom...I have a little propane left which I'm conserving for cooking and the clothes dryer, and just using electric heaters here in the living room and the bath. The heat wafts into the dining area and (little used)kitchen, and the bedroom is not heated. I use an electric blanket and you could 'hang a beef' in there....lol.

This months bill was $116 for 11/16 through 12/17. It is up just $36 from the same period last year and up just $26 from the previous month.

This next bill for December should be interesting. Last month i told DH that i think the gas furnace cost us more money to run then the gas fireplace with electric blowers. We bought the stove fireplace to supplament the heat in our home. Our house is extremely cold. The fireplace made a huge improvement in the comfort in our home. We would run the fireplace by day. Then we would switch to the furnace at night. This past month we decided to run the fireplace only. We did not use the furnace at all. Our WE Energies bill for the month of December should be arriving any day. I am hopeful that the fireplace is more energy efficent. We'll soon see!

We heat with gas, and our bill is running around $85 a month. We live in a one story, ranch style home.
