Well, I'm hardly impartial, cuz Door #2 looks just like mine! :>). But we preferred it, as it just looks more substantial, and perhaps a bit more updated?

I rather think that option 1 would look nice in your chosen wood/paint color.

It is tough to compare the two in two different woods/finishes as per the samples you show. I think the first in a different wood would be more "shaker" in style.

The smaller inset panel of #2 looks peculiar to me. I suspect that I'd like it even less painted white.

#2 for me too, but I'm impartial since they are close to mine too.

One thing to keep in mind with wider stile cabinets is that they tend to look odd on really narrow cabinets, if you have any. Essentially the middle panel disappears. Something I didn't realize until we were mid-project... Good luck!

Hmmm....good point about the narrow cabinets. I hadn't thought about that. Do you have pictures of your kitchens with the wider panels?

I went to many cabinet places and that #2 just kept grabbing my attention. The final cabinet company I went with only had a similar look which I'm Ok with, the outside panel is 3" wide vs. the 4" wide of your #2 that I just love. I think the regular shaker style is 2"wide borders.

I'm going to buck the trend and go for #1....but that's just because we recently installed something similar from Thomasville in our home! We have a pretty small kitchen, and it just looks more balanced. If you have a larger kitchen, #2 might look better.

Good point, elizabeth 96. We have a small-ish kitchen. I love the uniqueness of #2 though. It's really a tossup!

i am getting ultracraft,which also offers both styles.went with what is your #1. the swing factor was the issue already mentioned about how it would look on narrow doors.

Glad, I'm going with the Ultracraft Shaker style (#1) also. I was just questioning that decision, 'cause the Stickly (#2 look) does look so good in the pictures. I chose the shaker ultimately because I think the wide look is currently a little trendy, and may look dated in 10 years. I'm hoping the shaker is more classic.

I LOVE #2 but I think it is because of the stain color. (Very nice.) But since it is going to be painted I think I like #1. Then again, #2 is more unique.

So there, count me in for one vote for each.

I like both doors (ours are basically #1 but in a med maple) BUT I'm having a hard time getting 'into' #2 as a white painted door. I just don't think the style will 'read' as well.

I prefer door #1. If you really want a Shaker look, door #1 is closest to a Shaker design. The stiles on #2 look fat. In white I think they will look huge.

Here's a pic of our corner with a 12" narrow cabinet, so you can see the dimensions. Our cabinets are 39" high. Crown molding and light rail still need to be added.

It may look different with painted cabs, maybe someone has a pic?

I am using Shilo too. My KD gave me the specs book, which I poured over in an attempt to find the best cabinet fit for me. What you may not know is that for the standard pricing, Shilo offers about 6 different "edge treatments." This allows you to make the door truly yours! I personally do not associate Shaker and white. It took me a long time, but I finally decided that I wanted traditional, not Shaker (I was planning on the Essex door) and that's what attracted me to the white. Shilo also allows you to have distressing, sand through, and glazing at no upcharge. That may help give you the look you seek too. What I wish they did was allow you to play with the door electronically to see what it looks like. Sigh. In my dreams, I guess.

teched - wow, another Shiloh user! I think it's a pretty mid-west brand. Aren't they made in Indiana? My MIL has them and they are gorgeous. Love them.

I love the homestead door and now the new Wyatt door too. But I'm pretty sure i'll go with the homestead (door #1), since it's a bit more traditional and I think it will "last" longer.

I didn't know they do edge treatments! Is it on the website? I'll have to check it out. I don't need the distressing, sand through or the glazing, as I love, love, love the look of white.

I just did a bathroom for a client and love the look of her wider rails/stiles. It's Medallion Providence door in cherry. Just thought I'd share. I think this door or any wider rail door would look great in a painted white or light color. In Medallion's brochure, they have this door in white and it's beautiful!!

Wow, for months the name Shiloh didn't come up at all on this forum, and now it's all over. I'm a new Shiloh owner, just trying to finish up a few last details before I post pictures.

Anyway, I LOVE the Wyatt door (#2). It was definitely a contender with me. However, like a few of the others who have posted, I think the Homestead (#1) door would be a better look for a painted, white door - very classic. (The picture Kompy posted looks great, though...I guess it depends on the scale of the door).

I chose the un-creatively named "Square Flat" door style, in the un-creatively named "Red" stain on cherry (the same color as #2 pictured above). It's a flat panel door, but unlike these two, it has a bead aroud the inside edge of the frame. Originally I was really drawn to Shaker cabinets, but decided that the "Square Flat" veered a little bit towards traditional and would go better with my more traditional style house. I also wanted a glaze, and the bead gave the glaze something to stick to.

To answer a couple of your other questions, Shiloh is headquartered in Missouri. They are only available east of the Rockies. (I'm in Texas.)

I'm in the Wash, DC, area. I don't know of too many other people with Shiloh. The edge detail is not on the website. I don't find the web site that useful compared with other company web sites. My husband and I worked in Colonial Williamsburg for a number of years, and our house sort of looks like a modernized version of the tavern where we met and fell in love. Of course, we had lived here about a year before we figured that out! LOL! Anyway, we wanted a kitchen that had a "tavern" feel to it, which is actually kind of silly since tavern kitchens did not have anything more than a fireplace. Anyway, we wanted a painted raised panel look that looked like it had been there a while. Shiloh has it a pretty reasonable price. If I were really going to do the Williamsburg thing, I would get them in red or light blue or light green, but I am too chicken--they will be white!

Though I LOVE #2, I'm going to agree that #1 in the white will likely be the cab to carry you through many years (and you WILL get them done!!)

I do think the colors make a difference in snap judgment - I automatically said 2 until I thought about it.

I am pretty set on Door #1 now. I just need to get my house to a point where I can order the cabinets! we are still doing electric and plumbing...the electric we are doing around my husband's schedule. I'm just ready to be IN the house. I'll have to take pictures of the house I"m living in now and the house i'll be living in someday!!! It's a VERY small country house...that I do actually love, but is super tiny. It's a family house, so we can live there as long as we want.

But...I can't wait to have my kitchen done and be in our forever house!

I think door #2 would look great in white paint.

To get a glimpse, you may want to take a look at MsAzadi's pictures which are of door style #2 in white. Not painted but a foil finish, I think it was. Her kitchen pictures are no longer as well or as cohesively laid out as they used to be where she had them previously, but here and there in the folders on "About the House - Part 5", "Soapstone" and "Kitchen Cabinet interiors" you can see a few shots of the wider door style in white.
If you like the few shots, you could probably try to contact her and see if she'd send you the better pictures of the finished views of the cabinets so you can see how they look with the stacks of door/drawer fronts. She certainly used to have 'em.
