No way! Never! After hosting Thanksgiving and cooking for a couple weeks in preparation, I'm exhausted! I sleep really late, and enjoy doing nothing but lying around and eating left overs. Usually my DD goes into NYC with some old high school friends that are home for Thanksgiving. Sometimes a few will come here after that and eat some leftovers, but at that point it's paper plates and serve yourself!

Absolutely not. I will be putting up the tree and then decorating it. Hopefully DD and DH will tho. I like to have the house to myself when I do the tree. Alot of expletives seem to be part of the process for me, so it's better if I am not doing it in a room with others in attendance, lol.

Nope - couldn't pay me enough!! But we're doing something almost as crazy - both sons (one with GF in tow) are coming in for T-Giving and we're all heading into the city on the train for a museum day.

The reality is, I don't shop for the holidays at all anymore. Maybe someday if we have grandchildren....... :-)

No, I hate shopping on black Friday. Amazon is having its (it's?) own black friday, so that's where I'll be.

No, I'm not a Black Friday shopper. Never tried it since it doesn't appeal to me and there isn't anything I want badly enough to get involved in what appears to be madness.

I just saw an ad for Small Business Saturday.
The 2nd annual Small Business Saturday is
a day dedicated to supporting small businesses
on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.

I will try to support that.

I'm not doing it either. I've only done it one time, and that was when the store had an incredible deal on a digital camera that I'd had my eye on. DD and I went at 7:30 (store had opened at 7) and we went straight for the camera. Then we got to the checkstand and O.M.G. The line snaked from the front of the store all the way to the far right and back up toward the back! At least 100 people on line, and what was amazing is that all those people had FULL carts! And they were in packs, some holding the place on line while others were still out shopping. It was pretty mind boggling.

Another year I went BF evening to a local store to buy some stools they had advertised. They were a great deal, but not one of those BF door busters, and the store shelves were nearly empty of anything 'gift' related. But what is so ironic is that the closer you got to Christmas, the deeper the discounts got on things, so it was even cheaper than on BF!

I also saw the Small Business Saturday ad. I tend to buy local or hand crafted anyway, but I thought it was a nice way to remind people to buy local. On the 2nd weekend of December our town has the NW largest free Holiday Market, and it's consistently rated as one of the very best around. They have a strict juried policy and every single item is hand crafted or produced...food, arts, wine, books, clothing, you name it. Not one single thing is imported, and it is awesome. Plus, I love the fact that I can shop and enjoy a festive holiday atmosphere without having to pay to park or get in...some shows cost $15 just to get in the door!

No, There's nothing I want badly enough to brave the crowds. I don't shop the day after Christmas either.

Yep, on line! Possibly on landscaping also, since I saw a sign posted at a local nursery they'll be having a black friday sale. No malls for me! ;o)

NO!! to me, black friday has less appeal than it used to--- with all of the internet shopping available it seems like stores just have sale after sale after sale. i don't think the savings are what they were 20-25 yrs ago--and i only went twice then!!

Did this with my daughter a couple of times. Never again and the net is doing a great job on special offers.

I don't shop for the holiday anymore either. We just enjoy the day. If one of my adult kids sees something through the year I buy it for them (try to find online sale), give it to them then and they know it covers both their BD and Christmas. Makes more sense to get what they want than try to figure something out. There is always a little gift. And I have implored not to gift me anything, have enough and something simple like a plant works.

Rarely go out to stores during holidays, but when I need to it is interesting people watching.

Not traditional black friday shopping, but we'll be out of state with DH's family, so we'll hit some local antique stores. Of course the main thing on the ticket for Friday is the LSU v. Arkansas game!

It's the one day of the shopping year that i can NEVER be found in a store! Preferably, I won't even leave the house that day, because in my area the drivers get as insane as the shoppers (guess that makes sense, since they're the same people). I prefer to not be vehemently reminded of how much more rude people seem to be getting during the holidays, or to reward the marketers and retailers who have worked so diligently to turn Thanksgiving into just the day before 'Black Friday' (and I remind myself the moniker is a reference to putting retailers' revenues into the 'black', not to a holiday.) Nope, not me, no way, no how...

I have a friend that rents a limo to drive her & some friends around on Black Friday, take their packages so they don't have to carry them, and, to me this is the worst part, takes them through the drive-thru at McDonald's so they don't waste time. I wonder if they'll alter their plans this year with so many stores opening on Thursday night?

I'm suppose to have my Xmas gift list ready for my in-laws by tomorrow. They are not BF shoppers so I'm not sure how this tradition developed.

Absolutely not. I don't even know anyone who does this anymore, nor do I understand the appeal. Now that online shopping is so prevalent, why the rush to get out the door in the middle of the night and go shopping at a big box store? No thank you.

I'll be glad when BF is gone, because I'm already sick of the Walmart commercials blaring AC/DC's "Back in Black", and I think it's Kohl's that is doing a rendition of that awful "Friday" song. Makes me want to gouge my eardrums out everytime I hear that one.

Oh yeah. I'm the crazy one. LOL I LOVE Black Friday.

It's actually become a tradition in my family. We all pile in the car at about 6 am and drive ~3 hours to a HUGE outlet mall and shop all day. We break for lunch at a local texmex joint that we love, and stop when we're ready for dinner. We eat someplace nice, then head back on the three hour trip home.

It's actually not as crazy as it might sound, because for us, it's fun. It's actually become a fun family day. The outlet mall is huge and opens the night before so the real swell of crowds have subsided by the time we arrive. And just about the time it's getting a little bit crazy with crowds again, lunchtime, we drive off site for lunch.

Since it's such a large mall with something like 300 stores, there are very very few stores that have untenable crowds. And really, those stores are usually the ones I'm not particularly interested in anyway.

By the way I will say that I go with NO agenda. We don't do any holiday gift exchanging (I'm like emagineer in that I prefer to buy gifts throughout the year when a need or want is expressed rather than waiting Bdays & holidays). So mainly I'm shopping for myself, for the house, like that. Great bargains to be had and really, for us, a fun fun day.

Jen, the spots that grate on my nerves are the Target ones with that irritating woman. I can't hit mute fast enough.

Not a shopper even on a good day. Plan on hitting a nursery today and spending tomorrow and/or Friday in the yard.

We're not the kind of store that really has people piling into though. Hardware stores just aren't that "thrilling"!!

I'm all for shopping but am working instead. Dh has to be at work at 6 am and work until 10 pm. I go in at 10 am and will get home whenever it quiets down. It is a fun day to work as long as people stay sane.

I feel bad for the people who have to be at work at midnight on T day. I just saw a newscast that said the higher end stores really don't participate in the frenzy that much. I am hoping they start a trend and other retailers let their employees enjoy the holiday at home with family.

As for the deals...if you wait a bit, merchandise can be priced even lower later in the season.

Aw Faron. Hardware stores are some of my favorites! Grew up going with my dad to the Bryn Mawr Hardware. Broke my heart when it closed. It was a fixture. Huge white horse out tront (statue-not real), old wood floors, and anything you could possibly need or want. Had the hardware store 'smell' that all of them used to have. Loved it. I can still wander hardware stores for ages, not unlike a bookstore. Maybe I will shop our little local place that weekend afterall. :)
