Anyone Heard Anything About a Recall on Vytorin?

DH's previous Drs.office just called and told him there's been a recall on Vytorin and they need to change him. He explained that he's now going to another Dr. and actually has an appt. today. They told him to be sure and mention it to him. Actually, the Dr. he's now using just recently told him to start taking Â½ the dosage he's been taking.

Anyone heard anything about this recall and why they're recalling it?

My understanding is that it's been found to be ineffective, or at least no more effective than a cheaper generic. I hadn't heard about a recall.

I read about it briefly on MSNBC. Didn't pay too much attention at the time, but I'm sure if you do a search on any of the news sites you'll get all the details.

Yep, I think Alisande is right. I read it in the paper it does not do what studies thought it would.

Geez Louise, I'm probably the last person who would be 'up to something,' since i'm an 'to each his own kind of woman.' I'm a person who usually stays away from topics which brings out the worst. I thought it was a legitimate question, and thought someone might have heard more to the story since I don't watch CNN, MSNBC, etc., but did watch both the conventions. "A tradition at my DDs college is a dancing around the maypole nude on May 1st. Most of the kids watch, not too many dancers and maybe only topless. My daughter thinks only weird people take part." Oh, that's only a ritual that was documented by the Romans when they invaded Britain, IIRC, although I can't lay hands on the reference now. No big deal. It was revived in the Sixties. Many campus Pagan groups now get permission to organize and perform the ritual, unless stomped on by the "my religion is better than your religion" types - done properly it's a very intricate dance that takes practice. Some choose to perform this worship event fully "skyclad", others choose not to. Even though I'm an adult, pushing forty, and look more like Kathy Bates than Kathy Ireland, I've stripped off for a couple of Maypoles. Tends to still be pretty chilly in New Hampshire on Beltaine (May 1, one of the main holy days of the year) though so I prefer to dance cloaked or drum for the dancers if I'm not physically up to it. But then, I admit rather proudly to being a "weird person"!

I'm not on a single combo drug, but I do take both Lipitor and Zetia. When my cardiologist put me on Lipitor my cholesterol went down significantly. A year or so later when he had me add the Zetia, my choloesterol level plummeted. This particular combo certainly does work, at least for me.

I took Lipitor for about a year, then I started to get horrible leg cramps. And by horrible I mean jump out of bed in the middle of the night in excrutiating pain, leg cramps. So I was switched to Vytorin but my Rx coverage would not provide it so instead he wrote the formulary, they paid for that. Like Lindsey, my cholesterol plummeted. But I guess the problem is that they are saying it does not deliver on the prevention of heart attacks as it promises.

Vytorin is a combination of two anti cholesterol drugs. Simvastatin (Zocor) and Zetia. It is the Zetia that is under question. Seems that the drug company that developed zetia is now saying that studies have shown it to be uneffective in lowering heart attack risk caused by a build up of plaque in the arteries. It is a little more complicated than that. Read the info on the site below to better understand what is really the problem.

I take Vytorin, I had a hard time finding one that worked and did not make me sick~~~I see my dr in two weeks and will discuss this with him it is time for me to send in a new mail order and I am waiting for that visit.

My DH and I both take it he read an article in the paper two days ago.

Am I correct in my understand of this......the READINGS - or should I say the NUMBERS - go down, but it has no significance?
