Kitchenaid KUDE60FXSS vs. Bosch vs. Miele vs. ???
Comments (37)Sorry to hear about the KA issues. I was concerned as well when I got a KUDE70FVSS model in February 2010. The vent is located on the left side of the top edge of the door, next to the controls. It is not on the side of the door. KA's are deep and most will not fit flush under normal depth cabinets I hear. We have about a 1 1/4 inch granite countertop overhang which happens to be about the thickness of the door. So in our case we pushed the DW back until the door was lined up with the cabinet fronts but the door is completely underneath the granite countertop. It actually looks pretty good. (Our old WP was flush mounted with cabinet matching panels installed) We put the moisture strip supplied by KA on the bottom of the granite, for no good reason but figured why not. There is a small strip of cabinet under the granite that forms the top of the cabinet opening for the DW that is, of course, wood. If I put the moisture strip on it, it showed since the strip is a shiny material, so I left it off. I kept an eye on it for months to see what happened and I have never seen any moisture or noticed any steam coming from the vents at all, regardless of the time of day we run the DW. The wood under the granite and all around the DW looks fine and has never shown any sign of getting wet. Not sure what system they are using in this model but apparently it does not suffer from the same problems as the side vent models....See MorePros/Cons Miele vs HE Top Loaders?
Comments (9)My wife and I took a different approach in purchasing Miele products. Since Miele is still family owned, and has an established service base of their own, we chose to go with them as we are looking to redo our kitchen as well and want both quality, and more importantly: reliable service when needed. There is no doubt, in my mind, that the quality is there. New model issues with the washer and dryer that has been discussed at length here, but still the quality is a big part of Miele. Service, for us, fortunately lies within Miele's fifty (50) miles radius of a Miele service center, so there is no mileage up-charge for service under warranty, but a caveat for others to consider when purchasing Miele. There is also the issue of when a third-party service tech comes to service your Miele of how Miele will interface with them as was the case with Gordonr who found an excellent tech who was not a Miele tech, and Miele was not that considerate of the tech. Miele is releasing its RemoteVision that will monitor and troubleshoot certain Miele washers and dryers. No doubt that this feature will be an additional cost, but I do like that Miele is gathering data to help make better products. The consumer is not obligated to purchase RemoteVision. Another fact to consider since Miele is family owned they are not under pressure to turn a profit for investors so they concentrate on their products. Miele products are high-priced, but keep in mind that USD against the euro is so pitiful that Miele actually loses money when it sells product to US customers in today's market versus past markets. If we were to purchase another top loader it would be from Fisher & Paykel unless Electrolux were to introduce its new Water Aid Washer in the US, or Miele made a top loader for sale in the US....See Moremiele usa vs miele europe
Comments (12)curiousshopper, the W4840's max temp of 158F is well short of anybody's idea of a "boil wash". I use temps of 122F and higher mainly for linens, towels, and underwear. Yes, I do wash housecleaning rags at 158F. Stands to reason that housecleaning will be more effective if you start out with clean rags. On occasion I have washed badly stained or soiled regular clothes, and printed T-shirts, at 140F or 158F. They might not stand repeated washing like that, but a one-time treatment can yield amazing results. Like, my college-age son handled me a T-shirt he had worn for bicycling and for high-school wrestling. It was, umm, pretty gross. A long hot wash with detergent and oxygen bleach restored it to respectable condition, far better than you'd get from any amount of soaking in a sink or an agitator TL. When using hot temperatures you do have to be careful about colorfastness. Made the mistake of washing white and green all-cotton bathmats together at 158F. They came out quite clean, but the white one wasn't white anymore. I was able to whiten it again with chlorine bleach; if it happened now, I would try oxygen bleach instead....See MoreMiele Dishwasher Dimension vs Lumen - need owners opinion..
Comments (23)We bought a Miele Lumen dishwasher a couple years ago and have had nothing but problems from the time it was installed. The dishes don’t get clean. I have tried all their “suggestions” and several different soaps. A tech came out a few times but nothing changed. As a last-ditch effort, I recently decided to try it on the “sanitize” cycle and that worked finally. The part I hate about this is that it is a 2 hour and 50-minute cycle!!!! So much for saving on electricity. On their website it says “Save up to 50% on electricity. All Miele Dishwashers can be connected to a hot water connection at a temperature of up to 150°F. This reduces electricity consumption by up to 50% and running times by up to 10%. In the Economy program, the energy consumption of the dishwasher drops to as little as 0.45 kWh.” If I ran it on economy my dishes would be so dirty! The dishwasher also condensates or leaks water under my cabinet and drips onto the floor leaving a puddle. Not to mention it drips on the electronic panel. I imagine there is a failure waiting to happen there. On the same side it drips it also build up all the gunk on the inside of the door panel. It is weird and I have no clue how this is happening. I keep cleaning it off and the next day it is back again after a cycle of dishes. I have pictures and video of everything I am explaining. Lastly, I have a horrible rattle when the dishwasher first starts. We had a working KitchenAid before we thought we were “upgrading” to a Miele. We now wish we had never got rid of the KitchenAid. We have a Miele vacuum and have been happy. Miele is supposed to be the best of the best. Sad to say that after our experience with the dish washer we will never buy a Miele product again. To say I hate this dishwasher is an understatement! I’m ready to “office space” it! After I wrote a review awhile back a manager had contacted me and had someone come out to try to “fix” it. However, nothing was ever fixed. In fact, after inspecting under my sink recently I have noticed that the water line is connected to the cold water. It should be connected to the hot water, per their website. I have reached out recently but no one has returned my emails/calls....See Moremieleforme
