Crazy to keep our 80-year old boiler?

1927 stucco tudor, ci radiators, and original big old ci boiler.

Originally coal, then oil, then gas, now oil again for the past ten years or so.

The system works perfectly. The worst thing I can say about it is: the burner is noisy.

We're anticipate that oil would cost us $3500-$4000 for the coming season. Even if we save $1000 a season, that's probably about a ten year payback for a new system. No?

So, is it crazy to just swap to a new (or reconditioned) gas burner instead of an entire new system? The old boiler has no apparent problems and I'm wondering if it can keep on going or is it a time bomb? Hope the experts out there can give me some candid advice . . . . .
