I think it's a lovely idea and not too personal at all. Underwear would be too personal but not a throw. Oh, well a throw with naked people on it wouldn't be right lol.

I was thinking something along these lines (from Pottery Barn). Simple, and could work with any decor:

We built a getaway place in the mountains and several of the women in DH's office got together and bought us a beautiful throw. I love it because it's fleece and definitely warm. Plus you can toss it into the washer and it dries quickly too.

I think your idea is great - practical and personal with the monogram. Go for it.

This brings back memories of when I was in my mid twenties, and my (female) boss did give me and my co-worker underwear for Christmas!

I worked in a law office for low income and senior clients - we were not allowed to receive gifts from clients. But one of our senior clients brought his attorney (who was young and brilliant and looked even younger than she was) a box of day-of-the-week undies for Christmas. He was from another country and refusing the gift would have been insulting; we never knew if he picked them out or relied on a female relative or if he even knew what was in the box.

She had a LOT of teasing about his choice for her.

It is a lovely idea. My only hesitation would be on giving something that might need to work with whatever color scheme they are using...cream would be neutral I suppose, or maybe you do know what their colors are?

But as for too personal, I don't think so. In the same vein and perhaps even more neutral would be a personalized door mat or something like that.

Thanks so much for the input! I think I will go ahead with the throw idea -- just not 100% sure if I'm sold on the one I posted above from Pottery Barn. It's nice and neutral, but doesn't look like it would be all that warm. Still - at a little over $50 with monogramming, the price is right. I'm not sure of their color scheme, but judging by the furnishings in their home locally, I think that cream or green would work with their tastes.

I found this faux lambswool and suede throw on Etsy. I'd probably have it embroidered with their last name, instead of just the last name initial. What do you think of this style? Seems a bit more suited to a mountain cabin to me ... but I also want it to be nice, ya know?

I think it is a great idea! The last one looks like "mountain cabin" without being too rustic. If I had a mountain cabin, I would love it.

Thanks, Tuesday! Since I need to give the gift before these folks take off for the mountains, I went ahead and ordered the lambswool throw in camel, pictured above. I opted for just the single last name initial, though - started thinking that their last name is just a tad long, which might detract from the elegance I'm hoping for.

I think the throw you chose is very nice! If you are at all worried about it seeming too personal, and you have an opportunity to present it to them together, that might eliminate any uncertainty on your part. I think it is a really great gift!

Perfect Sunny! Gee I didn't know other people (besides my mom) gave underwear for gifts. Now childhood memories of my birthday girl friends unwrapping underwear mom selected in front of twenty five other little girls doesn't seem so traumatic lol.

It's a personal gift in that it is specifically for them and you thought of them when deciding - but "too" personal - not at all.

I think the concept is just fine, not too personal at all. The only thing I'd say about the specific one you choose is that you might want to make sure it's a *real* item -- e.g. real cashmere, real Pendleton, etc., rather than a faux anything. IMO real is 'safer' than faux unless you know that the recipients don't mind faux.

Yeah, well ... nice thought, but there's no way I can afford cashmere or Pendleton. The faux throw (hey! That rhymes! ;-)) will have to do. It looks nice to me in the photos, and the seller has received excellent reviews. I guess if it arrives and it's just not up to par, I can always keep it. And change my last name so the initial works for me. ;-)

I think faux is great for a vacation home. Who wants to worry about dry cleaning or moths eating something, Pendleton or not. I would want easy care and washable when on vacation. I think your choice looks perfect.
