Miele Little Giant PW 6065 Washer & PT 7136 Dryer

I'm new to the GardenWeb, but I hope someone can help me. I went to the International Builders Show in Orlando, and the Miele exhibit was very impressive. Unfortunately, the Little Giants were not there, because Miele chose to have larger capacity commercial laundry units on display. Miele did have the new W4840 and T9800, and I liked them very much, but I want a washer and dryer that stack, so that eliminates the new models. The W1215 FL washer and T1415 dryer were displayed and I like them, alot, but I am considering purchasing the Little Giants. There was a thread previously, about how loud the Little Giant dryer is, and I would like to know if something could be done to lessen the noise. Also, the installation instructions for the Little Giants require two feet of space behind the units for servicing, and I would like to know if the warranty would be voided if the Little Giants were installed like the W1215 and T1415, or without the two foot servicing space. Is there anyone on the garden web who has experience installing and using the Little Giants? Please let me know. Thank you.

I was hoping someone with experience would answer your questions, I am also considering these same units. Anyways, this post will take you back to the top.

The only thing that I might be able to add is the install manual seems to be written for the truly comercial units. The Little Giants seem to drift into the high-end residential category. I think they have designed these to be installed as a typical residential washer and dryer would. The manual shows very large drain line and venting requirements for all models except the Little Giants...these have normal 2" drain line and 4" dryer vent. They even state that the Little Giants can be mounted undercounter or stacked. I couldn't imagine the 2 foot access requirement would apply to the rear of these models. I think most of the Miele service work is done from the front of the unit by removing the panel. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Good Morning,
I am the Client Sales Supervisor for Miele, USA. I was surprized when I read in your message about the Little Giant requiring two feet between the rear and the wall so I checked with our Professional Department. Only the larger machines require the two feet, because they are so large and heavy, that once they are installed they cannot be moved to work on. The Little Giant can be moved, and therefor does not require the two foot space.

I got extremely lucky and picked up this pair from a dealer that was closing a location and got the floor models for roughly half off and will be having them installed over the weekend. I was surprised by the earlier poster that called Miele and didn't get help. You have to be sure to navigate through the phone options and select "Commercial/Professional Equipment" to get to the right folks. The rep sent me two documents that are incredibly helpful. One of them is a Technical Service Bulletin that gives explicit information on two transformers that should work: 1. McMaster Carr P/N 70525K76 2. Grainger P/N 2CM61 (Square D #1S46F) I ordered the model from McMaster because their private label transformer was $172 vs $426 for Square D. The wiring diagram for the transformer is available on McMaster's website, so your electrician can look at it and see what he needs to do ahead of time. My electrician is coming in the morning to wire this up and (fingers crossed) I should be good to go. The two documents Miele sent me were WAY more informative than what's available publicly from their website in the Operation Guide / Installation Instructions and are exactly what an electrician would need to properly prepare the electrical for the dryer. I gave them feedback that this information should be incorporated in the installation instructions to prevent a lot of headaches.

I'm only average height 5.5 and a 1/2..but I can easily reach to the bottom of my TL'er maybe because its an older one, and its on the floor, but that being said my body still gets mashed , almost like I'm getting a mamogram with every load I do..lol...but bending to remove each item from the dryer is worse, I like to fold each piece as I take it from the dryer, warm to pervent wrinkles and it kills my back..than because my laundry room is also a mud room someone always has shoes in front of the machines that I either have to bend over to pick up or trip on them. Sometimes it seems like a constant battle just to survive the mashing and bending/ twisting positions involved in the laundry room. I never wash my down beds - that clumps the feathers ! I do hang them out in the winter to fluff them up ! Like the German story for children : Frau Holle :) I guess it is a preference :) but Germans never wash their down comforters ( they usually cost about 300 dollars and upward , depending on the feather fill ) I just got rid of some my mom used to have about 45 years old !

I'd make the room to accommodate the deeper dimension of the Little Giant set. I think most regular sized sets would need 36" depth or deeper to accommodate the dryer venting. You could locate your set in an area that if ever the really deep sets are needed, it wouldn't be too big of a deal, maybe just moving a few cabinets. Beats having to relocate doors and traffic patterns. In my room, I had no choice and went with the regular sized Miele. A Little Giant won't ever fit :(

I have a pair so I can chime in...

If your outlets are directly behind where the units will be placed (which typically would make sense, especially if stacked) you must keep in mind that the molded plugs provided by Miele are NOT the normal 90 degree "flat" style like most US 3-prong dryer plugs. They plug straight in and then there's about 3-4" of handle on the plug. So they must stand off from the wall by at least this much to avoid crimping the wires. If you have flexibility in where your two dryer outlets will be placed, if you have them placed to one side of the units they can be placed closer to the wall or undercounter.

One last thing...with the dryer you MUST provide 208V, not the usual 240V. The dryer will not work overvolted. This requires a step-down transformer to be installed by a qualified electrician. See other threads on GardenWeb regarding the transformer requirement for the PT7136.
