Reservations Ready?

I'm already thinking ahead for Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. Any trips are gatherings that require reservations for the Motorhome. I get so tired of waiting until the last minute and then I can't find hookups. Kiddos need to turn in vacation requests.

My Daughter, Our Best Friends, and In Laws like to group camp. Inevitably someone can't get reservations to join us.

Also, we want a bigger family Thanksgiving next year. So we want to reserve a vacation house at a Midway Point.

Anyone else a planner?

yup! my dh is full-time in college now and i just went back to a previous employer who does not allow vacations or appointments from feb-may because we're landscape plant growers and it's absolutely crazy then. so my appointments and vacations are going to be finalized for the rest of the yr by end of jan. we'll do a short cruise early june and chicago/indy early june too. then no vacations until sept labor day week and a week in dec around christmas in chicago and a short cruise over news years holiday. atleast now my dh doesn't teach school anymore so i only have 1 schedule to deal w/ for him! ~ liz

I am a planner but DH is a 'wing it' person:( His way of thinking he is free spirited, which he is not and I am~~~but I do like to plan and have things set.

Hi Drew: I just saw someone post a recipe for unripe fig preserve. Mine has alot of similarities to his. Try this. cut stem of figs, place in a bowl and pour boiling water over it. Sprinkle 1/2 tspn of baking soda and let sit for one hour. I also placed a plate on top to make sure no parts of floating figs miss the liquid. Drain and rinse the figs very well in cold water after the hour soaking. I still do not know the purpose of using the baking soda, and hope someone will enlighten me with an answer. Now comes the fun part. I create my own mix of what to add to the cyrup. This can include a sliced orange a tbspn of grated jinger, some chopped walnuts, a handful of raisens,a diced apple. I just finished a bach of some 40 figs that filled 7 pint jars. It contained all the above. As far as the cyrup, I start with 2 to 1 sugar and water. Then I apply the taste test while it is cooking. If too sweet I add more water. Also as an inssurance policy I prepare another small quantity of very hot ready cyrup. Just in case I run short at the stage of filling the 7 jars.Fill the jar up to 1/2 inch from the top of the jar. Always process them in hot water bath for 10 minutes. The timing starts when the water in the kettle starts to bubble.Later I moderate the temp some to prevent overflow.Prior to this, needles to say, all the empty pint jars have been in the oven for at least 20 minutes, at about 200 degree, even the utensiles get the same sterile treatment.The lids, get a 10 minute treatment on the stove in moderately boiling water. This bach just completed took 1 1/2 hours of cooking on medium to medium low heat, depending on your particular stove. Keep stirring regularly and taste the cyrup as you go. Thanks, wamaha. It is something new and the first time that our PB has heard of it too. I think he said that it has something to do with the fact that we are on an acre. It was a 6 page application and we had to figure all of the impervious surfaces. Now they are saying that it could take longer than 12 days because they are moving their office on the 18th. Just my luck!

Anna-I got samples of flooring before install and scratched them with a nail, put ketchup on them, slammed a high heel, etc. Give them a brutal run through to guarantee they will hold up. We had solid red oak floors in a previous home and they dented/scratched fairly easily and we knew we didn’t want that again Mia-I used Bona in our last house and its what i am using on these as well

Bpath: I have a LOT of storage in this home of ours. The 2 Christmas sets are stored in my extra built-in cabs in our laundry room. I had them put in specifically for holiday storage. Same with the Halloween set. The four everyday sets are kept in my kitchen drawers. The antique set is displayed in the upper cabs of my dining room built-in hutch, along with my crystal barware set that we hardly ever use anymore. The Autumn and Spring sets are in the hutch's two lower cabs that have two deep pull-out drawers each. One or two sets are in the cabinets built into the back side of my kitchen island, accesses from the family room side. I also have a long storage cab above the entire one side of my kitchen. There are doors on either end. I used to keep dish sets up there, but we have to use a ladder to access that area and dish boxes are quite heavy, so I've stopped storing them up there. I can't plan as far ahead as dinner... If I were in your shoes, however, I'd be making those reservations, too!

When it comes to vacations, DH usually comes home one day in January and says, "Tomorrow I have to schedule all of my vacation for this year." (They do it by seniority where he works.) So he puts down his chosen weeks and then mostly leaves it up to me to plan with his input. Funny thing is, he likes to "fly by the seat of his pants" on vacation with no real day/time to have to be somewhere. It's always interesting, to say the least!

I'm already planning our next winter vacation--for January or February of 2009. In fact, I'm looking at hotels and destinations on Tripadvisor right now.

I learned my lesson last year about planning way in advance. We usually use frequent flier miles to go on a winter vacation, but last year I delayed looking into it until August. By then all the decent flights were booked, and I ended up having to pay for airfare to get the days and times I wanted. So this year I'm determined to start looking for seats in February, which will be 330 days before we want to travel (that's when the airlines release the free seats). I just have to decide where to go!

(I'm sure lots of people would love to tell me where to go!) lol

Once that vacation is settled, I'll start thinking about what to do for my 50th birthday at the end of April. Actually, I've been thinking about that for a while, I just haven't decided what I want to do.

Then there will be our 15th wedding anniversary in November, which falls right on Thanksgiving this year, so that will take some planning to get flights. We may go to Vegas, which is where we got married.
