Ideas for "Emergency boxes".

I'm going to put together vehicle emergency boxes for my family members as gifts for Christmas. Also having an emergency box in your home is a good idea.

What would you put in an EMERGENCY BOX FOR A VEHICLE? I want to keep this as compact as possible or they may get removed for taking up to much space. These items do not need actually be kept in the box. Lifehammers should be mounted somewhere you can easily/quickly grab it.

Lifehammer (to break windows and slice seatbelts)
Flashlight
Non perishable food/water
gloves & hat
Snow brush/scrapper
blanket
cell phone charger
flares or a help flag???

What about an EMERGENCY BOX IN YOUR HOUSE? This could be a lengthy list so lets assume a few things. Such as everyone should have the following already in place.

Bottled water for drinking, filling bathtubs for toilet flushing
Supply of Non perishable food including food that does not have to be heated.
Flashlights with extra batteries.
Phone chargers.
Medications for you and your pets.
Other stuff you may need to care for your pets.
Disposable dinnerware as may not be able to wash dishes.

KNOWLEDGE: Such as where, how to turn off your gas line, electricity, water supply. Where your high efficiency furnace vent is so you can keep it clear. Phone numbers of all your utility companies, family and friends. Put this in writing as you may not be able to look at your phone for the number.

What other items would be good to have?

Please specify if your ideas are for the car or house or both.
