Thanks for the info in this thread. I would like to grow more raspberry cultivars, and found the info useful. Although I must disagree with some users about Fallgold. I have grown it a few years and it is by far my favorite variety. It tastes so different than any other raspberry. Amazing jam from it. Everybody whom has tried it loved them. I have not tried many cultivars, so I may change my mind, but if this is bad, I can't wait to try Anne and KiwiGold (I ordered both for this spring). Hard for me to believe they could possibly taste better than Fall Gold. Kiwi Gold sounds like it tastes like Fall Gold. Apricot flavor does describe the flavor. More apricot than raspberry flavor if you ask me, but does have a blend of both. What yellow cultivars are commercially sold? I tasted one, it was not marked as to what it was, and it was terrible. I ate 3 or 4 and threw them out. I guess it's possible the soil and conditions make a world of difference. Again thanks all. Has anybody tried Cascade Gold? A Summer bearing yellow! I would love to know any opinons...

drew - You sent me two.. the Rosanna did not live but the Cascade Gold appears to be hanging on. It sent up a new cane but it died...looked like downy mildew or some type of fungus. I'm going to try to nurture it to success. Sounds like the trailing blackberries I sent you didn't live through the winter either. I didn't have any established trailing blackberries die but all got zapped by the -12F temperature this year. On the upside, all of the trailing berries are entering their 2nd full year and they are growing like crazy! I'll finally be able to try Columbia Star and Newberry. mhayes - That's sounds very interesting. I have never heard of a raspberry that has lateral branching that long. Do you have any pictures to share? On my Royalty raspberry plants, the primary canes cane reach 7ft but there isn't much branching but I haven't been pruning them either. All - Anyone try growing Nova, Taylor, Cowichan or Lauren summer-bearing raspberries?

Mantis - This Longing is the only Ansari I have. Blazing Cannons was splotchy on its original scapes this year. It doesn't have trouble opening here. It is not an emo. I bought it two falls ago as a single fan and now its three. This cultivar does have a lot of prolifs, but I wasn't able to get them to winter over. Julia - Heartbeat of Heaven was not this light last year. I think the raised bed where it was planted in mid-June had gotten pretty dry. We're back to very humid, hot days up in the 90s. The blooms today look darker. Debra

Love the sunflowers! I think we need to try them next year. We are going to have to rethink our garden layout. Even with having a major pruning on the backyard trees, two of our raised beds are still not getting enough sun. We may have to move everything to the side of the house. The containers on the deck are doing fine, though, but the beds that are on the ground behind the ones you see in the picture above are not doing well at all.
