turn a 3-drawer base into sink base??
Comments (2)Plan your plumbing before you start reworking the drawers so you can keep maximum use of the drawers. If you pick a sink with a rear drain and depending on where the drain line runs (through the back of the cabinet or down through the base), you might be able to have a tilt out tray behind the top drawer, make a U-shaped drawer or partial drawer in the middle, and possibly have a full drawer in the bottom -- maybe just a notch in the back of the center. My prep sink drains through the bottom of the cabinet, but if it went out the back like my main sink does, I'd have 10 inches of clearance between the bottom of the cabinet and the bottom of the disposal (and Insinkerator Evolution Compact)....See MoreDiff. between regular drawer base and pot/pan drawer base?
Comments (3)I had a Kraftmaid pots and pans drawer in my last kitchen and loved it. A two-drawer pots and pans drawer along with full extension glides were at the top of my list in planning my recent kitchen redo. I put an entire set of dishes in the top drawer. The cabinet came with heavy-duty full extension glides. You can order heavy-duty glides on any Kraftmaid drawer or pull-out, so I don't know what the price comparison would be. The drawer sides were also full height, but I don't know if that is different or if the three drawer sides would also be full height. I needed the height of the two drawers to hold what I wanted to put in it. The bottom two drawers of a three drawer cabinet wouldn't have been deep enough....See MoreBase cabinet - Height from floor to usable lowest base drawer
Comments (13)surprised that no one has pointed out that the toekick is there for ergonomic reasons.Otherwise we would all have nonrecessed baseboards and drawers down near the floor. If you don't recess your baseboards you will have at least some scuffing or stubbed toes from others if not yourself. Why don't you like TK drawers? They are close to the same height as an inset cutlery drawer. My cabinetmaker is charging $90 per full extension TK drawer so I added them under all the wider bases. If you use frameless cabinets you will regain minimum 1 inch vertical height that you are losing to the slightly shorter cabinets since you will not have intermediate rails. That is probably a better way to go than lowering the toekick less than 3 inches, for your feets' sake....See More42" aisle too narrow for base cabinets with drawers?
Comments (20)I want to add to this old thread (in case someone else comes across it while looking)... I was **freaking** out that my aisles were only going to be 42-44" in my kitchen and my designer assured me it was "great"... she was SOO right. I have 42/43" aisles in my main workspace and it is HUGE. HUGE. In that area I have a big prep sink and a 48" range. I have no idea why someone would want MORE space. It's actually sad I could have had a little more space on the island... I read all these forums and was sure I needed 48"... I just don't get it- the people who wrote these guidelines. My kitchen is large and the whole family is regularly in that work space... Actually if it would have been smaller maybe they would all stay out :) of the cooking space. I am not petite either at 6' but anyhow...my kitchen is beyond roomy with 43" aisles. I hope this helps someone :) edited to add: 43" is referring to my "work" aisles (range, prep sink, MW drawer, and large drawers in island. cleanup sink and DW on peninsula). The main pass aisle to den is 48" and the separated drink station/pantry is 55" from the islands' side....See Moreannac54
