The nuthatches, both red and white breasted, love the peanuts.

This shows the feeder tree to the left and the road where the dogs pull the sled. This is northeast of my house.

The platform feeder is in the corner of the deck for now. I have to bring it in every night to keep the deer from eating all the food. They can't reach the other feeders.

Since it's been sooooo cold, I don't like going out after dark and again at sunup to hang the tray in the tree. For now, and at least until the temps are in the double digits, I'll keep it on the corner of the deck. It's easier to see and photograph the birds there, and they don't mind in the least. I think they'd come in to eat if I offered them the opportunity.

Love your beautiful birds!!! I love my feeder birds too! I always tell people they are my outdoor pets since because of my Dad's severe allergies I can't have indoor pets! They must love your feeders!

just beautiful! I know that they are loving you for all that good food! Is there a water source for them that is not frozen somewhere?

I think all the water in the state is frozen. I know the ice fishermen are out on the lakes and rivers in droves.

Since the wind chill is hanging around minus -32 to -40, it would do no good to even try to water them. I see them eating a lot of snow.

I keep fresh water out as long as it's not freezing, but once winter hits it's back to nature for them.

That sure is a bird banquet you have out for them.

I just this morning wrote down a list of the different birds at our feeders. 18 species we see daily here. 19 if you count the hawk that stops by for his own kind of dining or for a drink. No crossbills here either. We have a heater in the bird bath and the birds do take advantage of it. In the near zero weather yesterday, there was 6 or 7 mourning doves settled in around the rim of the bath most of the day. Warming their toes no doubt.

Just an observation in your first picture. Isn't that a Pine Siskin that you perhaps identified as Pine Warbler? We have had the siskins here in past years when the pine nut crop further north was poor, but none this year.

Yes; I'm always calling them "warblers"; they are siskins. They can eat upside-down just like the goldfinches.

I just wish I could add a pine warbler to my list!

These are wonderful photos and birds, thank you so much for posting them. Where are you located to get such a variety? We (Maritimes, Canada) get the pine siskins, nuthatch etc. but I have never seen your crossbills. Very pretty.

It has been incredibly cold here also but sadly we are getting very few birds in recent weeks. Used to have tons and would have to keep filling the feeders. I have only filled them once in recent weeks....no idea why.

I feed the birds, my parents have two suet baskets that sure go fast and they are constantly having to buy suet to put in them.

And I tend to feeding the birds, black oil sunflowers as they do love those alot and go through them tons and tons when its so cold and snowy. We buy major birdseed and also loose peanuts, not in their shells and then buy this smaller bag for tiny birds to enjoy eating.

I give out lots when we have had our winter storms some years and snow and cold talk about how fast they go through all that during that time but they need it.

And don't forget the winter hummingbirds too as found out one winter storm and it was bitter cold outside for us living here on west side of canada on island and a hummingbird came along and it was being taken in and thawed and the other one put out and they rotated them my parents did.

Our birdbath is frozen I noticed and so yes, they must find it themselves but the water is in creeks, streams that isn't during the summer months.

I have to laugh as we have one area by the back door I use from my suite and its bent and so it really fills up with water and birds bath themselves in it. I will come out and go what is that noise and see water and wings going like crazy, even in the winter they do it too.

We have small, medium, large size woodpeckers, we used to have doves but haven't seen any this year at all. We get tons of chickadees which I love and they are so friendly and they see me coming to the area I throw out the food for them and its like hurry, hurry and then I throw the peanuts and they dive and I go watch out here is the seed and I throw it in. We have other birds too and lots are pecking on the ground where parents gardener put mulches leaves and they go after berries too on the trees.

Its nice to see the different birds and to watch them I love to do.

What a nice variety of birds and so pretty. All I get are brown sparrows and squirrels at my feeder. The occasional goldfinch is quickly driven away by the sparrows. Oh well, they have to eat, too.

I don't know why you would wan to use a better camera. Your pictures are absolutely beautiful.
