Radiant Heat

Hello -

I Am looking to start evaluating Radiant heat for the heat dist. portion of my remodel. I would love to hear opinions on the following:

Is this a DIY Project - by this i mean laying the piping, and bringing back to a central point. I would like to have the plumber connect it all up etc..

I have been told by some Geothermal folks that its not a good idea to use radiant, and by others that its the only way to go. Is this dependant on the types of geothermal systems..?

Are there good, better or best in the world of radiant heat and best practices for materials/installation and design?

Finally - can anyone explain in practical terms how radiant heat, where the pipes are attached to the underneath of a wood floor is really efficient. I have always been under the impression that wood was an insulator and not a very good conductor of heat.

Radiant heat on concrete is just a great way to go and i would love to include it in my whole hose project

Thanks
