DuelFuel Package: Carrier vs Ruud?

OK, so I have decided on a outdoor duel fuel packaged unit (propane furnace and electric heat pump) for a variety of reasons.
The two units I am considering are the Carrier Infinity 14 or 15 Packaged DualFuel Hybrid; and the RUUD RQPW-B 14 SEER.
The Carrier is variable speed while the RUUD is single speed. I have a price on the RUUD of about $4000 and am waiting to hear back from contractor for a unit price on the Carriers.
One question is does anyone here think more of either of these two brands?
Another is there a signifigant advantage to the variable speed compressor/fan on the carriers vs the single speed on the RUUD? One contractor advised against the variable speed units as "too complex" break down a lot,and hard to maintain. I dont believe that, but I could be wrong, as I like the idea of a variable speed system for quietness and electricity savings.
Any thoughts?
