Kenmore or GE electric smooth top range

Hello everyone and Happy New Year. I'm new to this forum and need your advice. I'm looking at replacing my 15 year old Whirlpool smooth top with either the Kenmore model # 92609 smooth top or the GE (model # jb655 smoothtop range. Does anyone have any experience with either of these two, good or bad. Is one more reliable than the other.... any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Happy New Year.
There is an appliance forum in Garden Webb, and you might receive more responses there.

Google the model # and make of the appliance + the word reviews.

In doing so, I found the Kenmore to have slightly more 5 stars out of 5 than did the GE, alto both did pretty well.

Upon checking prices of these ranges, it becomes pretty clear that You don't wish to spend the money to get an induction range, or I would have recommened that, and I still do, (If you win the lottery or your horse comes in)!

We had a Kenmore range before our remodel and I loved that range. It was a different model than yours but also had the Turboboil feature so I thought I'd chime in and say how great that feature is.

We replaced with a gas stove -- first time in my life I'm cooking with gas so perhaps I just need to get the hang of it -- but water boiled faster on the turboboil burner of the kenmore than I can get it to boil on our new gas range. It was a great feature of that stove for sure.

I also have a GE smooth top range that I bought in 1995. I have loved it. Just now the burners seem to be maybe not heating as quickly. Could be my imagination. I've been looking to replace it with induction (it will then be moved to the basement to replace the circa 1970s gold electric coil top GE that is down there working awesomely!).

I can only speak to the Bosch which I've had for about 8 months. I'm happy with the oven, in particular the adjustability down to 100 deg. Yes I'm fairly well-versed in food safety, but sometimes you just need a big warming drawer. The 10-pass broiler is hot and even. The cooling fan does run a lot, but I don't find it offending in either noise or heat output. Less enthused with the cooktop. While the wattage specs on the highest burner are good, you need cookware with approx 11.5" base to utilize it. Your standard 8qt tall stock pot only takes two rings and is therefore dreadfully slow to boil on any burner. On the other end of the spectrum the low is higher than I'm used to. The Schott Ceran is significantly more sensitive than my previous Frigidaire. I had chips within weeks of using it, more now, the silver pattern seems to clean off, and in general I find it poor quality. The paint on the knobs peeled off at first cleaning; fortunately Bosch was aware of the problem and sent me a new set which has help up thus far. Overall, there's a lot to like about the oven but enough to dislike about the cooktop to where I wouldn't recommend it. My #1 takeaway would be to look for a power burner that matches the diameter of your most used cookware, in my case a 12" skillet and 8qt tall stock pot.

When I wasn't able to install a convection wall oven under any induction cooktop, I faced the same choice. Got Electrolux's induction range, and am happy with it. [But note that it assumes --without specifying this -- that its being installed in American (framed) rather than European (unframed) cabinets.]

I don't have induction, I have a gas range, so don't have the experience with induction to recommend it or not. I do know though that many people have to buy new cookware when they buy induction, because not all cookware works on induction, so the OP needs to be aware of that. If the OP is determined to have a white range, then I would recommend the GE double oven white electric range. It's not induction, but it has the advantage of two ovens in one. Since the OP does not cook often, I bet the smaller oven will get used the most, a great convenience. GE Double Oven Electric Range - $1200 with black top and knobs GE Double Oven Electric Range - $1500 with white top and touch pad (not knobs) I prefer knobs - easier to work with. If I were choosing between the one with knobs or the one with white top, I'd choose the knobs, no question. You shouldn't be concerned about the black top. No one will care or notice.

After having horrible experience with my Kenmore Elite washer (probably 8 years or so ago), I decided that Kenmore is no longer what it used to be and I wouldn't buy another Kenmore anything. I do admit that my Kenmore 1995 fridge still is excellent, but I think it must be before they were bought out by some other company or something. In any event, IMO something has changed in Kenmore quality. I also bought a GE flat top electric range in 1995. It is still amazing! Just last summer the element in the oven went out (that's a scary event!), but it was $70 for a new element, easy to replace, and all is well. Love my GE stove. Have a gold (circa 1970s??) GE electric in the basement - still going strong - never one issue. After these experiences, I replaced my Kenmore washer with a GE and am very happy :)
