Anyone own a Speed Queen?
Comments (20)I am the owner of Camping La Fresneda Spain, in 2009 selected by Cool Camping as the best campsite of Europe. The first week of August 2011 we decided to buy a new washing machine for our campsite. We selected the Speed Queen SWT911 because of short washing time, activation with a coin, reduced utility cost and reliable and convenient operation. After weeks of trying to get in contact by email with speed queen (none of our e-mails were answered) we found a telephone number in Barcelona. They gave us a telephone number for the nearest distributor in Zaragoza, Spain. Applying for information through your web site doesn`t seem to work in Spain. So by telephone we ordered a Speed Queen Topload Washer SWT911. I am writing this email to you because 30 August we received a Speed Queen SWT911. We ordered a Speed Queen SWT911, but what we received was disappointing. 1) In the place where we expected a coin slide we see two large holes, so we called our distributor immediately. He informed me that this was extra. I checked your website again and when I go to Vended Loandry Top Load Washers Brochure/Spec I see only a coin slide where we see two large holes. The brochure says for Activation: coin/card-operated. I cannot see that this is an option! I expect a complete and working machine for this money. 2) This is a so called commercial washer for vended loandry, so why isn`t there an instruction in symbols which is understandable for everybody. I asked several guests on my campsite if they understand the symbols on the placard on top of the machine, none of them understand just a single symbol. I asked the distributor, and he had to look in the manual for explanation. And it only says something about safety issues, not how the machine works! I want to have a placard which says how the machine works. My guests are not going to read the manual. 3) The Speed Queen website is talking about Reduced Utility Cost. The machine has a water factor of 9,5 gallon per cubic feet and a MEF of 1,26. These figures seem to be one of the most unfavourable figures in the market if you compare them to other reduced utility cost washing machines. 4) Another thing is the noise level of the machine, I think it is the drainpump. If you consider that this machine is mainly designed to work on public sites you expect low noise levels. The speed Queen SWT911 makes a lot of noise. The local distributor admits it is very noisy, but says this is normal for this machine. The way I feel now about Speed Queen is far behind the expectations I had when I bought the machine. At the moment I would not recommend Speed Queen to any other campsite owners....See MoreAnother Speed Queen TL member
Comments (22)I only heard about Speed Queen two days ago and I'm already an owner of a TL one. We've had a Frigidaire for about 7 years, we never had any repair issues with it but every now and then my wife and I would see little holes in our clothes. At first we never really questioned it, then we figured well maybe it's bugs, maybe zippers from other clothes, maybe the seatbelt in our car, etc.. etc... Then the problem seemed to go away only to re-appear, maybe there's a loose screw in the washing machine, nope. Again, we kind of forgot about the issue and/or holes were not occurring anymore. Fast forward to present time and we have a newborn in the picture, most of her outfits have holes in them after washing them. That was the last straw, my wife (and I wish we would have done this many years ago) started looking online for "holes in clothes" only to find out that these stupid FL machines have a knack the world over to putting holes into everyone's clothes when thin materials get into the holes of the tub. So we decided we're going TL, I went to the appliance store where we recently bought all our kitchen appliances from and who for the most part only carry European and American solid made appliances (lots of help also over in the appliance forum of GW) and told them we're looking for a TL washer. He showed me the Speed Queen and said you won't be disappointed, I said let me look into it. We looked at a ton of reviews two nights ago and were immediately sold, I purchased it yesterday and we'll have it on Monday. I can't wait for "no more holes". I wish we would have cut our losses years ago as my wife has probably thrown away a decent amount of her work clothes over the years. I'm looking forward to the Speed Queen and hoping that it comes as advertised by all these reviews on here and other sites. These FL washers are BS....See MoreSpeed Queen Balancing Issues
Comments (115)I know Emma. It can get so confusing, and even I sometimes am like, well how much detergent do I use?! This bottle doesn't seem to have "turbo' on it, but it is HE. Even when I overdosed that load, I didn't have a suds mess up and out the drain pipe. Promising! As for how much to dose on a new bottle, vs an old bottle, what I do is use the dosing lines that are on 'that' cap, from 'that' bottle. Sometimes the caps change sizes, so your line 1 can now be a line 2 used to be. Make sense? I'm liking this formula so far. I also like the cap a lot. I've had a translucent Tide cap that is impossible to see the lines because the detergent sticks to the cap. This one, I think from the plastic slickness, coupled with the new thiner formula makes that problem go away--to date. Things might muck up in the future, but right now, I'm a happy camper with this formula. I find it cleans a little better than the last time I had a jug of this. I got it on Amazon from the official Tide section. It had a $3 digital coupon on it, and I bought it to have a back up in case a different F&G liquid I like changes their formula to something that doesn't work well for us. I've been skunked too many times now with all these "new and improved' innovations. I plan ahead when I can. Just try to find the amount of detergent that gets your laundry clean and also doesn't suds out your drainpipe....See MoreAs far as me recommending Speed Queen
Comments (44)Mama, I have the old style mechanical SQ TL and it is fine. But, I wanted to tell you about my experience with my Bosch Nexxt FL. It sounds as if you are having a similar issue. It worked intermittently. Sometimes it was fine. Sometimes it wouldn't spin dry just drain. I just never knew when it would work or not work. This behavior became more and more frequent until one day it wouldn't spin at all and ceased to work. I did some research on my particular unit at GW. Because it was out of warranty I called for service. Armed with my GW information, I insisted that the service tech do a computer diagnostic. Just to be thorough he checked one or two other possible mechanical issues. The barrel spun freely with no problems. After he did the diagnostic, we determined the control board needed to be replaced. He also said the barrel bearings were in the process of wearing out, I had too much play in the barrel and it would go bad in the near future. Between both costs, I decided to replace the washer with the SQ TL manual. The reason I tell you this is your repairman can replace every item in the machine and that control board still won't work. Until he does a diagnostic on the electronic control board, you won't have an answer. Insist that he do it. Aside from the miserable customer service at the appliance store, you've got a repairman issue. This shouldn't have been that hard to fix. Have someone with the right equipment check the control board. I still contend that you need a replacement unit. Go for the TL manual basic. It's a good product....See MoreVicky Foster
