Returning items by mail. Is no confirmation normal?

I'm sending bedding back I bought from Linensource. I called to ask a question about the return and while I was on the phone asked if I would receive a confirmation email once I've been credited. They said no. So now it won't even show up until next months statement.

Is this typical? I've never sent anything back in the mail before. I think it's stupid they don't, considering you can receive a confirmation email when you BUY the stuff.

They told me to give it at least 15 days from the time I ship. Could I call my credit card company to find out? (Giving it time to hit my account.)

I do have a tracking number (made a copy of that and the paperwork I put back in the box) so I'll know when it gets there.

This is a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff I'm shipping back so I'm a little nervous about the process.

Hmmm... I recently returned something to Amazon and they did send me a confirmation email. And I was able to check my statement on line to confirm that I'd been credited.

Some do, some don't.

If you used a major credit card, you can probably look at your statements and activity on line and watch for the funds to be credited. It's easier than calling the credit card company.

Yelena - I hope that ebayer made good on your order for you. I've only received an envelope of seeds once with no bubble wrap (and they were crushed). It was from a trade here. They were flat hosta seeds but they still didn't make it through the mail sorter. Dust! I think if they were more consistant with the rules and regs it would make it much easier for people that do an extensive amount of mailing. If you were just doing a few packages yearly, it wouldn't amount to very much. However, if you had a big SASE offer going and found you were short on postage for every bubbler, that potentially could amount to quite a bit. I'd certainly read the shipping rules if I was put into that situation and to try to send the packages out for the least amount as possible within their guidelines. (I wouldn't consider that tricking the post office). I don't think $1.13 is asking too much to ship a package either. Heavens, I just paid $5.45 to Gourmet seeds to ship 10 packs of seed! Really, the postage issue has to be put into perspective. If an extra stamp or two on a trade makes someone feel like it costs too much, it's not really worth doing the trade. Like everything else, shipping costs have gone up. It used to be worth it to trade for one pack of seed or a small plant exchange. It just would be less confusing for people it they stuck to the same rules at each PO. For instance Yelena, your PO lady won't leave her truck now. My PO guy was out delivering packages on a Sunday (yes Sunday!) the weekend before Xmas. He hand delivered them to everyone's door. My package would have fit in my box but he brought it up to the door and rang the bell! So, I guess they aren't as strict around here. I won't be putting my larger bubblers in to the drop box anymore though!

Carol, I hope you and Al have had a good night's sleep and some peaceful, quiet, restful time at home. I don't think you made Al sound bad but merely human like the rest of us. I think I have the lazy gene that Diane mentioned and I DO like soda and sweets and all the bad things that I shouldn't like. I think #1 could be Thai hot but it also could be any one of the dozens of ornamental varieties of peppers sold by various nurseries, stores and seed companies. They usually are sold as ornamentals because they are too hot for most people, but all the ornamental types are also edible. Pepper #3 is the only one I'm not sure about. I agree with Carol it lacks the characteristic darkness of poblano types, but its shape looks familiar and I think I've seen it before. I'm just not sure which pepper it is. Did you harvest them green or did you let them mature to their final mature color? If you did, did they mature to red? orange? Dawn

As you can probably see, there's no one answer to the "is this normal?" question. Regional differences may account for some or most of that, maybe simply different business models as well. It only matters that you understand what you are paying for and how much you are paying. Then you decide if it's worth it to you. We built a whole house on a cost plus contract, which I've read here is very "foolish." It worked out fine, but maybe because we had a very honest GC we trusted. And he trusted us not to nickel and dime him. His markup was 12% on the materials and subs he "was responsible for." The going rate in the area had been 15-18% before the recession. We hired him just as it seemed we might be coming out of that, but he still wanted the job, so was competitive on that end. We agreed that we would not be hard-nosed about the schedule, as we are not moving there for a while. So we offered something in return. He has been able to do other projects before ours was "finished," which is not something people want in a kitchen remodel! He was fine with us ordering and paying for appliances and he installed them without marking them up (at his usual hourly rate.) We knew what we wanted and where to get it and had them delivered on time. With countertops, for example, he arranged it all and we just paid a total that had his markup included. I don't think that fabricator would even have talked to a walk-in. There were a few other things he let us pay directly (his idea to save us some $$): tiling and foundation/excavation, driveway construction. Honestly, every time I had to deal with the subs myself, I came away thinking "man, he earns his %!). We worked directly with our cabinetmaker and paid him directly, too. I do agree appliances are a little different, but the main thing is that you both understand and agree to what the plan is.

But for many other members here, catching the virus is close to a death sentence. Many members here who have pre-existing health issues and age limitations, death is real. They have to take extraordinary tactics since death is irreversible. At this time, the medical experts still can't be sure about the exact nature of the covid-19 virus and how it can infect 2,000,000 and kill over 100,000 in a short few months. Thank you for your understanding and stay healthy. Thank you brother, fellow NewYorker. We are so overboard taking precautions, and have been for 6 weeks now, watching so seriously, being in a hot spot. No precautions are too many. I keep tabs on my credit card purchases and returns on line. It makes life a lot easier. If they credit you promptly, it'll show on your account within 24 hours or so. Or you can call them - I used to do that before Al Gore invented the internet ;-)

Just got back from the post office.

DH is so very anti computer anything (except to fiddle with his baseball/football stuff) so we get all paper stuff in the mail. Looking online would be much easier but I guess since he physically takes care of messing with the bills, whatever.

I'll give them a call in a few weeks to be sure.

Darn sale! If the stuff wouldn't of went on sale I would've wait longer and probably wouldn't of ordered it in the first place. It was too tempting. :)

I think you need to either call your credit card company or set up an online account. Not to lecture, but you need to pay attention to this stuff, no matter that your husband isn't onboard with online. Mail theft is a big part of identity theft. You can still get paper bills AND have online access to the information. Your credit and financial identity is important--and separate from your husband's, so it's worth the time spent to figure this stuff out, no matter who's in charge of bill paying.

And you can always return items by registered mail, so that the company has to sign for the package.

I agree with the registered mail, or paying insurance on the package incase it gets lost. I hate ordering stuff online.

ideefixe said what I was going to - I get paper bills on everything but keep tabs of things on line. I happen to also pay most of my bills on line but that's not a choice you or your DH have to make if you don't want to. If anything should be amiss with your CC ascount, you'll know FAR faster if you check it online than if you wait for a statement to be generated and mailed.
