Miele T9800 Dryer Lint/Vent check light

Recently purchased a W4820 washer and a T9800 dryer. Like the washer, but the dryer check lint filter/vent control panel light consistently comes on and the cycle is shortened. I then have to open and close the dryer door and start the dryer door. Clothes then don't dry quickly. The filter is clean and the exhaust is a jet blast at the vent outside and the vent run is significantly with in spec as far as length. Any thoughts as to a solution and or reset? I will call into Miele on Monday. Closed Sat. and Sun. Thank you.

I think it's best to call Miele. There are two sensors in the dryer: 1) one on the three long paddles inside the drum to read fabric moisture and, 2) one inside the exhaust plenum to monitor heat and to shutdown the unit if the exhaust gets too hot, thereby notifying you with the panel light. Either the exhaust sensor is bad, or there is something obstructing the exhaust in the machine itself. Someone earlier mentioned that they found a part, located within their 9800's exhaust, out-of-skew when they checked their unit. However, I would not mess with it, and while the Miele Tech rep is there (insist that a factory Miele tech rep. comes as they have the software, and hardware to properly work on your units) ask them to also upgrade the firmware on both your washer and dryer, if needed.

I need to clarify a bit more...the are two types of sensors in the dryer: 1) moisture and 2) heat. There are two heat sensors that coordinate between one another. If there is not obstruction in the exhaust plenum they can also adjust the Sensitivity setting in the firmware that monitors for obstructions inside the dryer; they can reduce the sensitivity. Taking the toe kick off did not help. I did a load with one pillow and one 2x3 heavy cotton bath rug. It was near the end of it's cycle at the cooling down phase. I walked away and the buzzer went off. Came back and the filter light was on. I opened the door and the pillow was standing, back at the rear vent area. I had the settings on normal, full load, extra dry. The rug was ever so damp and the pillow (synthetic stuffing) wasn't totally dry either. Moderate to large amount of lint on the screen. Rug had been washed a fair number of times. Pillow was the first time. I took a piece of toilet paper and there was a nice draw that was being pulled in at the opening that I exposed. The filter light still went off. Fahrenheit: 1) if I get a buster what kind do I look at? 2) Would taking that dip out of the corrugated run help, as seen in the picture, or do I just get the darn booster? 3) I would have never thought that I would have needed a booster with the unit 8' away from the outside wall. Is this fairly common? I recognize the bends are causing more resistance to air flow, but still. 4) Is this typical for all dryers to need a booster at 33' of adjusted run, or is it because my dryer is really a hair dryer like MRB-627 says? LOL.

Got the washer. It's great. Clothes get cleaner, dry faster, and it's so quiet you can barely tell it's running. (I do wish that the end-of-cycle signal was louder - I'd like to be able to hear THAT upstairs.) With the pedestal, it's a great height, and the pedestal even works well for storage. Also, the 120V hasn't been a problem at ALL. This machine uses so little water (yet still washes great) that it can still heat up the water QUICK even with the smaller heater. Even on the most aggressive cycle (Sanitize + Extra Soil + Extended + Sensitive) it's still much gentler on clothes than my old TL on Delicates. The controls are just simplified enough that they don't confuse anyone else in my house, and aren't missing anything significant to me. I'm still considering a new dryer. Will need either a left-opening or hamper-style door. Also, I want a real moisture sensor (instead of the simple temp-based system my old dryer has). A drum light, reversing tumble, and a real countdown timer (with good estimating logic based on moisture) would be nice too. Unfortunately the T9800 doesn't have the timer. Right now, I'm using Persil Sensitive, 1/4 to 1/2 cup in the main wash and under 1/4 cup in the prewash. Also 1/2 cup DWV in the fabric softener compartment (for cat odor). I've tried using LCB a couple of times - 1/2 cup on the Sanitize cycle for whites REALLY blasts the stains out. And there's no residual odor like there was when using LCB in my old TL.

Dryer screen....now lint NOT sticking??

You know come to think about it, I think I will wash my newly aquired Miele dryer. Its a used set that I got several months ago. I have wondered why there is no lint on this dryer screen, where my other newer Miele gets lots of lint. I never use dryer sheets, but maybe the previous owner did. I am going to wash it and see if it collects a bit more lint. I'll also have to check the exhaust vent to see if there is much lint there. ETA, my screen is clean from residue, air flows freely through it. My vent seems to be clear too. I don't see any lint on the ground outside, but we just had several days of drenching rains.

Thought I'd add a quick update - the error has not returned yet. I got the error light the first cycle I ran after the repair folks came, and possibly on the load after that (can't remember for sure), but in the last 4-5 loads the cycle has been finishing up properly. The Miele repair guy actually gave me a call on Monday and wanted to know more about what was happening since he saw that I have another visit scheduled for this Friday. He thought it might have been a stored error since it happened right after they left and then appears to have worked itself out. I'm going to be running a couple more loads today and tomorrow and will cancel the service call if the error doesn't return till I see the Filter/Vent light again. Overall relieved that this is the case, but half expect the error to return after a few more loads.

I had the same problem. Could not believe that something else could be wrong with the vent / duct until I climbed onto the roof and checked the outlet. A pad of lint (1/4 inch thick) has accumulated at the mesh which covers the outlet to protect against small animals / birds. Easy fix, just be careful and don't slip... No problems since then and drying times even shorter.
I still have the metal ratteling / banging sound when drum rotates clockwise. No annoying noise in counterclockwise spin.
Let me know if anyone solves that. I am about to get an inspection camera and check out what's going on inside the exhaust while drying.
