I Really Like This Picture! :)

My son, Andy (the Photographer in the family) started a project on his Facebook a few days ago...Photo A Day and the only "camera" he uses is his Cellphone! Only light(s) he uses is whatever is available. He always adds a caption with the photo. This is his work boots and the caption is "So Many Miles Traveled...Praying for Many More"! There's just something about this that I really like!*S*

I grew it a while back. IIRC it was beloved as an exhibition rose for the shape of the bud and that it could be teased open for rose shows successfully. (And it made big blooms on long straight stems.)

Andrew, PS. Sonia does have great plants as I have bought from her several times. Since I have known John for a long time I generally buy directly from him, but sometimes Sonia finds a rare one so I just get it from her as she takes good care of her plumies. Gina is one of my fav's I have 3 of them. The first one I bought from John was when he brought them in from Thailand and paid about 150.00 for a 3 tipper in a 6" pot. Also I never keep multiples of the same variety so I really love Gina..lol The other thing is depending on the heat and temps you have during supper Jenny, and Jackie may not take on its look with the coloring or curling of the petals Here is a pic of Jackie blooming last season in my cooler coastal area, pic was taken in late Aug: Pics of other Jungle Jacks plumeis you got from my cooler patch: Elsie without heat in mid June Christina cooler temp first blooming Blooming in Sept when temps where in the upper 80s Gina Taken in warmer temp in Sept Jenny without heat in late June in my costal area Jenny in heat Penang Peach in late June when its cooler Smith Candy Apple is a good one for cooler areas and good growth habit. Pic from cooler June Samirie with heat Samirie needs some heat to pop, with out heat Lava Flow in cooler temps in June So basically some plumies require heat and bright bright sun to look like the pics sometimes. If you live in an area that has cooler summers or near the coast you need to be more selective. Here are a few other plumies that do not perform well in cooler areas. Purple Jack (looks pink, unless you have heat) University Hawaii Orange Emmersons Pink Nova (the white eye will not appear or pop without sun and heat) Flames of the sun Bonnie Fox Dane Madam Poni Wild Fire only stays red never gets deep Ruby Gold Heart of Gold Thai Peach, etc.

Lavender Lass, The thing that has always struck me about your inspirational posts isn't necessarily the popping colors. It's the softened fairy tale look. I don't think that necessarily the solid dark blues or solid bright blues offer that "soft" and blended look. Many new materials are never going to age to a soft look. I had noticed sort of what looked like an creeping change to your "dreams" in that at the beginning it looked like more of your photos were a subtler, fanciful, dreaming? look. Even your name, lavender lass has that feel to it. Is this a direction change you are looking for? When we were originally looking at your photos they basically had many wood counters or countertops, this well worn feel of antiques and old french bistros. Now more of your conversation are about things like wanting to maybe stay away from wood because it will appear old. I don't want to seem like I'm putting down that feeling just that it wasn't where I thought you were coming from on your pictures. That's a great photo-it really tells a story! The black and white film is what makes a difference. Tell your son I think he's quite talented!

Wow, thanks for the kind words!

A quick run down of my little project....

My first goal is to disprove that an expensive camera takes better pictures. It does give you more/better TOOLS but if you don't know how to use them you're dead in the water. A camera phone is the ultimate limited camera. I do have a big fancy DSLR and some good lenses. I am in withdrawal, but that leads me into my second goal.

Goal two is strictly personal. Taking photos with a Blackberry forces you to see creatively. There really is a shot practically everywhere, but you need a creative eye to find it. Creativity is like a muscle....if you don't use it it will wither. I won't be using much other than things I find readily available.

Originally, this was going to be "Photo a Day". Unfortunately, I don't use my camera to make my living. I do have a day job (and the boots should tell you its rough work) so sometimes I'm too worn out to think about it. If anyone is interested in seeing the others they can be found at:

My ultimate goal is to do portraits for money. I love my camera and if that was paired with making money I would never have to work again since I love it so much.

Again, I really appreciate all the kind words about the photo. I'm fortunate in that I'm driven my both positive and negative criticism. Either makes me want to do better work.
