The New Penney's Commercial?

Anyone else irritated by it? The people stand at their mailbox screaming. The first time it came on the air the cats (all 6 of them) went absolutely ballistic. They were so startled that they jumped and ran (we call it a 'catalanche') knocking down a table and breaking a lamp. I've caught it the next two times it was on this morning, and muted it.

How irritating! The only good thing is that it is to announce something coming Feb. 1 (I think that is the date) so at least it is short lived.

Yes I love all of them. We have seen that new one. I love when the cat rolls down the window and just looks at them like What? And the dogs groan lol. I don't know what company came up with the campaign for this compilation of dog tested commercials for Subaru, but they are genius and deserve accolades and a nice check lol. We will stop fast forwarding and watch everyone of them. The dad driving the baby around to get it to sleep is just precious. I have to give those dogs huge props because they are fantastic.

I saw one yesterday that involved a cat. The Barkleys are looking out the window and see a cat walking on their car. They start barking, but that doesn't phase the cat...I'll say no more as I don't want to be a spoiler.

This is another one of those products that you have to use 3 or more consecutive times in a row before it does anything. It has a dimethicone type chemical in it that helps smooth things like hair.

You don't like the commercial because your dealer didn't clean your car? Kidding I agree, there are easier ways to get the hair out. I like the dishwashing glove idea. Also, those microfiber cloths they sell for washing cars? They're fantastic for getting rid of fur on upholstery. This time, the cheap cloths work best. https://www.amazon.com/AIDEA-Microfiber-Cleaning-Absorbent-Lint-Free/dp/B07ZF9C3WP?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A3PXISABFADO0N

When I see a commercial I really do not like, I write the company and tell them why--but politely. Like the Subway where the woman took the sandwich out of the boy's hand. I just explained this was a bad example for the youth. Got a nice email back.
Please, just let the companies know why you don't like their ads, and sometimes they will change.

I haven't seen it...find MANY commerials annoying...but my friend was JUST talking about it...she said, "Did you see where J.C. Penney is lowering all their prices by 40% and this is supposedly not a sale....just lowering the prices across the board and not having sales?" ....WOW! I find that interesting, if true.

I just read that starting Feb. 1 JCP is lowering all prices 40% permanently. They are trying to compete with Wally World.

I was at JCP looking at watches and I asked the sales lady if there were going to be any sales on watches because I wasn't aware of any and I hadn't received any promotional coupons in the mail (like I usually do). She explained that JCP has instituted a "new policy" which means that their prices are "the lowest" around, therefore alleviating the need to run sales or send out coupons.

Anyhoo, I found a very nice Bulova Caravelle watch and the price at JCP was $90. I then went to Macy's (in the same mall) and found the same watch at for $120. The sales lady at Macy's said the watches were going on sale on January 28 for 20% off and then you take an additional 15% off with the Macy's coupon. The price for my watch, including tax (pre-buying it and holding it until the sale date) came to $88. The price with tax at JCP would have been $97. Purchasing it at Macy's saves me $9, which to me is a substantial savings. Somehow I don't think JCP's new strategy is going to bode well for them. I know I'll continue to shop around for the best buys.

I just saw the commercial for the first time and HATED it.

    LOL, lynn, a "catalanche!"

If I've seen it, don't remember. I hope their strategy works, I like JCPEnneys.

Here is a link that might be useful: jcp dropping prices

You would remember it Kat if you saw it.....all the screaming! I often fall asleep at night with the TV on. I wonder how I would feel if I woke up to all of that screaming!

My cat reacts everytime she is in the room and the little pig commercial is on.She doesn't leave the room, but reacts. Once woke from a sound sleep.I love the little pig.

I've seen the JCPenney ad and it is annoying.

Hate the commercial. Have not been in a Penney store in decades. I love all the Target ads.

I think Sears tried that (no sales) years ago and it didn't last long. People love a good "sale".

Haven't caught the ad, but did hear that as of the 1st, Penneys is planning on lowering prices 40% and cutting out the 'cents' prices (everything is supposed to be round dollars--$10 instead of 9.95).

But you have to wonder--if they're actually cutting ALL prices 40%, where are they going to make that money up? That means there will be almost no profit on the things they sell (after you subtract cost of the item, real estate expenses, employees, office expenses, etc etc etc)so how are they going to stay in business? Either they're on the way out and know it, and are just trying to do a quick, last-minute smash and grab, OR they're planning on operating like Wally World and blackmailing their suppliers into selling their products for less than they're worth.

I could understand a more modest, but still significant (20%-25%) price reduction, but 40% sounds like retail suicide.

"That means there will be almost no profit on the things they sell."

The new CEO is formerly the CEO of Apple. Apple's pricing is target specific because you are selling one line of products (technology) and one brand (Apple). Retail department store sales is another thing altogether. This is not comparing apples to apples, so to speak. You're right, azzalea. A 40% price cut is retail suicide. Folks are going to keep looking for savings regardless of whether or not JCP touts "the lowest price", which can and will be found at places other than JCP. I saved $9 at Macy's when I purcjased my Bulova watch. That's an additional 10% savings overall, which for me works. All I had to do was walk down the mall to compare prices.

they have to do something, but annoying customers before they get to the door isn't cutting it..we saw it last night and dh about blew a gasket...

they might be digging out all the trash and junk in-store for ages and putting it on 40%?

i might have to break down and go though...2 of my dgd's can only wear that line of jeans that come in size 12 1/2?

Someone told me they won't have clearances anymore either.

I never bought anything at Penny's unless it was on sale. I love the quality of their Tees. They feel nice and don't shrink up, but I never paid full retail. I always thought that price was just for show as they had sales every other week.
SO if I only bought at 50% off during the sale, then 40% off all the time means I can shop on Monday(as opposed to weekend sales) still get a good price and they still make money.

Hate that ad also! I do a LOT of shopping at Penney's & try to catch the better sales(50-70 off) as I think they are over- priced to begin with so even at 40 percent off, it still isn't that great of a sale. I hope that "new idea" doesn't last long as I like the clearance sales esp. on the higher ticket items (coats, etc.)

I have a question about the no sales concept. So what happens with all the merchandise that they don't sell? Does it stay on the racks until someone buys it? Or does it get bundles up and sent to a clearance outlet in another city denying the local customers the opportunity?

No retailer, no matter who they are, can have the lowest price on everything, every time. It's all about the averages, you save more on item A but spend a few dollars more on item B. I am very disappointed in Penneys lately, I always bought my window treatments and bedding there, I never even looked elsewhere. But the last sheets I bought shrunk terribly and no longer fit the bed so now I am searching for a new supplier. California King, deep mattress is not an easy fit.

I did email them and tell them how horrible the commercial is, I got an email back telling me to check back on February 1 for a pleasant surprise. Unless they are replacing my lamp I don't think I will be doing so! I really don't care about the lamp but a form letter was not a good answer.

Lynn, irritated isn't the word. I hate to have to watch tv with my remote in my hand so I can hit "mute" when I need to. I emailed them about their offensive commercial, wonder if I'll get a reply.

Just a note--sales and clearances are apples and oranges. Not the same.

'No sales' doesn't necessarily mean 'no clearance' racks. WalMart doesn't have sales, but they still have clearance merchandise at the end of each season (just last night I perused an aisle of 75% off Christmas decorations). Last year I bought at least a half dozen Christmas shirts in January--that were on clearance for $1.50-2.00 each.

A sale, however, is generally a temporary, advertised special price--and when the sale is over, the price goes back to the regular price (This week only, XYZ jeans on sale for $15.99, regularly $25.99). I have no way of knowing if Penney's will still have clearance racks/shelves/sections, but they may, since that's not the same as a sale.

I haven't seen that ad. Does it come on at a more or less same time, or with a certain program? Just curious since it is that bad, I'd like to see it.

J.C. Penney would definitely turn over in his grave if he knew they were going to a "no cents" pricing. He started the cents pricing to make it hard for employees to steal money.

    I haven't seen the commercial.

I don't think the new policy is going to work. They need to do a lot of revamping of the whole store. I like the women's fashions, but they need to bring back better quality and get rid of the made in China junk. Dd has crossed over into the bigger girls sizes. I have a hard time finding 'cute' clothes there. I have an even harder time finding boys clothes. The clothes are either sports oriented, look like gang wear, or have some Asian design. My boys just want middle of the road not to standoutish clothes.
