Deep window sill question

My kitchen window is a bump out, so the sill is roughly 14" deep. What type of material should the sill be? We're planning on using wood on the 2 sides and top. Previously this was drywall with tile about 18" on the two sides. Originally, I was thinking to just have a wood sill, but it occurred to me there could be water issues with plants.

If I continue the backplash tile (white) up there, I'll have cleaning issues, the same I had with the old tile. I'm short, so I didn't go up on the counter to clean as often as it needed.

Baltic Brown granite came with my display kitchen. Would the dark granite sills look too heavy? Would a different material, like marble, look weird mixed with a granite counter and white tile backsplash?

Does anyone have pictures of a deep window with dark sills or stone sills?

Thanks!
