Wow, do we have redbirds!! pics

We've counted 20 some male and female Cardinals. so pretty to watch.

Not the best pics, but you get the idea! Wish I could get them ALL in one pic.

Wow--I've never seen so many all at once! We have one pair, that's it. Beautiful!

They sure are pretty, we have several at our feeders but not a flock like yours!

wolfgang80: I've considered (and in all honesty am still considering) soapstone, but my biggest worry is that I won't handle the chips and water marks well. We definitely want something that's low maintenance and not damaged very easily (as the DH does most of the cooking and isn't exactly careful or gentle in the kitchen). Do you think the soapstone would be much more period appropriate and/or a better fit overall?

The best way to get rid of bagworms (if you didn't have quite that many) is to hand pick them off and either squish them or put them in a can of diesel or gasoline. You can also buy insecticide sprays that contain BtK or pyrethrin. You need to visually inspect cedars and pine trees this time of year and pick them as they get on there---anywhere from a few to a dozen a day. I'm afraid in this case, you need to burn the tree OR dig it up and put it in a container, then dispose of it far away somewhere. Otherwise, you'll have more of them in subsequent years and/or your neighbors will have what you have.

That's spectacular. The sparrows dominate my feeders, so far only one pair comes to mine and mostly eat the seed on the ground.

Most days we have several in our evergreen trees out front. Beautiful to watch. Don't think we have ever had this many at one time. Enjoy. Beautiful pictures..

Bigack, I am so envious!

I buy safflower seed to attract Cardinals. So far with limited success. This past spring I had seen one or two Cardinals in my pear tree in the back yard.

One day I heard a squeaky sound, and there was a fledgling on my back porch rail. The parents were watching out for it, and when they flew away I snapped a couple pictures. They did come back and a little later they were all 3 gone.

I know Cardinals are ground feeders and they do eat the seed that falls from the feeder. I should get a platform feeder. I think they must also prefer evergreen trees because of the cover. But I keep trying.

My that is an impressive bunch! We buy safflower for the Cardinals, but they don't feed from that feeder any more, if as much as, as they feed at the sunflower feeders. At most we see a half dozen pairs here. My brother-in-law 30 miles north doesn't put out safflower (he is too cheap) but at any given time you can count as many as 30 of those bright res blobs in the trees around his feeders.

I use 100% sunflower seeds in my feed unless I can't find any, I'd use a mix then, but we have tons of Cardinals here in NE Ohio on the feeder and on the ground. Mostly they stay under the feeder, but they get on it too when there's a spot opened.

I love redbirds!! I have seen more redbirds at my house in recent years, but no where near the number you have...that is amazing! Great pictures!

that beats my single pair!

ok this sounds strange but last month was bringing grands home after dark. as we pulled up by the apple tree (one feeder is there) something was crawling up the trunk..if i didn't know better i'd say a lizzard?? but here in se mi??? and it wasn't that warm either...

Being originally from Ohio, I love cardinals. We get them frequently here in Georgia, but never like that! We attached a platform feeder to the rail of our deck, and put sunflower meats in it. The cardinals, as well as all the other birds love it. My favorites are the woodpeckers and the pair of bluebirds.

I had never had any until two years ago, when there was a pair in my yard. I was so excited, and they came again last year, so I'm waiting now. I would love to see as many as you have, Sue.

Great and love the snow falling! I have some red birds but not that many our birds are not really feeding since we are having a non winter!

Too warm? I'm hearing a cardinal singing as I type this -- on Maui. He has a slightly different tune than the ones we have at home near Chicago. The 'lyric' is different, but the 'chorus' is the same.

Bigack -- Your tree looks like a designer Christmas tree decorated with red felt birds!
