pre-planting bulbs in pots?
Q
Comments (1)
Yes, you can pot them up now. No, I wouldn't advise crowding them into pots unless you intend to leave them in pots until they go dormant again. You would really disturb their root systems pulling them apart for transplanting. On the other hand, you could probably get away with planting them in smaller pots if you are going to plant them out soon after your move. (Are you sure you can do that, with un-packing, design and planning, and the need to prepare soil, etc?) Just a hint. I moved more than 300 pots of plants from my old house into this new yard a few years ago. To avoid going bankrupt on potting soil, I potted my plants into compost until that ran out, and then DRY leaves. I kept them well watered and believe it or not, I lost virtually none. Some stayed in the pots for nearly six months, and by that time had composted down to where the pots were only about half full of "soil". Be sure to mark your pots with what's in them, and use something weather proof! We played "surprise plants" for the first year:)

bobcat sighting....and now a deer autopsy
Q

Well, the rubber gloves are off and the results are in...no results. I was afraid of one thing: it's been in the 90s every day, the fawn was extremely young and therefore the bones so VERY thin and supple. Nothing had touched the carcass, it was exactly where I had left it and in the same position, but it was as if the flesh and bone had evaporated. The burying beetles and other "janitor" insects had reduced the body to just the thin leg bones and the hide. The ribs were even not to be seen under the covering of skin. I gently picked up the skull and it simply deteriorated in my hands, leaving only the teeth and a small part of the back of the skull. This bit was the most intriguing, as there was a small entry hole that did in fact show force from the outside , but I noticed several others in the fragments that were similar but were simply from where beetles had chewed through. The bones were so soft that they were eaten along with everything else. So, now I am kicking myself for not hustling over and maybe seeing a bobcat up close and personal, and also for not getting to the body any sooner. COurse, had the bobcat incident not happened I would have had no need to get a second look at the little fawn. I am sad too, Elly, that the fawn wasn't 'utilized', if you will. And I don't think you're hard for saying that. I agree completely. In fact, that is a big fear for me...coming across a scene of natural predation and my presence screwing things up and the prey dying for nothing.THe first time I heard baby rabbits being eaten by a rat snake I did not know what was making the noise so I followed the squeals until I practically tripped over the snake. It left at my intrusion, leaving a strangled young rabbit behind, and it was totally a fault of mine that the meal was interrupted. These things happen. Cathy, when all the snorting and leaping was going on, we never did see any additional fawns, just the does. They have been dropping fawns left and right so there were surely some close. In fact, I would think it almost a certainty that the doe who lost the first fawn was among the group. Interesting to note... a regular housecat is not viewed as such a threat and gets no such response --in fact, my parents watched a doe actually walk up and LICK their cat-- but these deer either knew from experience or instinct that THIS was a different animal. BTW, this particular cat was rather small, less than knee high by estimates. My husband confessed his surprise, as he had mental pictures of large imposing creatures, the kind in stories that drop from treetops onto unsuspecting hikers. Or mothers-in-law.

Speaking of retirement.....
Q

I retired at the end of 98,and dh retired in may 99.I first retired from Burroughs/Unisys in 87,stayed home for 1 1/2 years, got bored and went back to work, only this time in retail,a quilt store, worked there for 10 years.I left there because we got a new mngr that knew absolutely nothing about fabric, sewing, etc and continued to lie to our long time customers about how she could get them the sun, moon and stars. Her office wall was filled with sticky notes of what customers had asked for and that's as far as it got. Customers complained to us,we complained to the owners, but they didn't listen. Finally i had had enough,so one night her and i had it out(i was asst mgr, even b4 she came,i had turned down mgr)She told me she was gonna write me up,i told her to go ahead, but i wouldn't sign it.She did and brought it out to me to sign, and i refused,we got into an argument over that,so i finally took it from her,and i didn't sign it,rather i wrote on the bottom that i refused to do so,and that i quit effective immediately and they would be hearing from me. Once the other gals found out i quit, within 2 days 5 more quit, leaving just her and 1 other to do everything. I came home and wrote a letter to the owners, who i had known for those 10 years and told them what was going on(had told them b4 also) Only this time it was 4 pages long on one of those yellow legal pads.I made copies for myself. Then a couple gals called me,and we met for lunch and discussed what had been happening,so they all wrote letters as well.Long story short, when they got my letter they didn't know what to think,so did nothing. After they started getting letters from the other gals, and some of the customers they finally got on the ball and followed up on the complaints.Sent in a spy to watch her etc.Next thing we know they had fired her and decided to close the store when the lease was up the following year. DH had a stroke in may 99,so that's when he retired for the 3rd time.21 yrs in the Marine corps,22years with Edison, and was working for a security co when he had the stroke. It was a small one and he's ok now, thank God. Sorry kinda got carried away. Kathi

Vegetables going bad sooner in new Samsung refrigerator
Q
Comments (24)
I have the French door style # RS25H5111SG/AA. Both times I got the rep from US but that didn't matter as they kept screwing up the set up for the techs. I put in a very wet paper towel in a glass bowl in the crisper drawer and it was bone dry within a few days. I had the second visit for the tech yesterday and he did much more than the first guy and actually took off the panel in the fridge and found the fan running slow and not properly, did an adjustment then it seemed to be running better but not as it should. There was a 15 degree difference between the top and bottom of unit too. I saved all my dead veggies that were all shriveled up to show him and that helped with his investigating. So he ordered me a new evaporator fan and said that will help with the humidity levels as since the warm air wasn't circulating properly the sensor didn't get the message to kick in...I'm going to call Samsung and request a gift card/reimbursement of all the food that has gone bad while waiting for their techs to figure this out...

It was a great game. I thought both teams played a great first half, even though I was on the phone thru most of it. I liked the last quarter best, I was able to really watch. The Gators buckled down and got the job done.

The singer, I thought, sang well- that's a tough song to sing and there was a lot going on while she sang it, fireworks, maybe a fly over, it got really loud at one point. The only time she adapted it a bit was right at the end. All in all, not bad, I'd give her a 90, if I was grading her. :)

Well I bow out gracefully (not)...LOL I didn't make it but to half time then lights out....I was disappointed to hear we lost....but whoever plays the best is the winner!
Wasnt the singer a gospel singer? I thought I heard that but since I karoaked with her it was really bad here LOL Stacy
