Had to share my find for fine hair!!

Just wanted to share something I found for my fine hair. This has worked so well for my hair. There are just a few tutortials on youtube demonstrating it, some better than others. It is a crimping iron you use only at the roots of your hair, making your hair seem more full. I found mine on Amazon for 19.99.

It's funny that you posted this, as I've been wondering if a curling iron might help with my fine, but also thinning hair. I'm letting it grow out a bit so it's in that awkward stage, but I just had some layers put in. I don't know if I can strategically place the crimps so that they're not visible, but for $20, it's probably worth some experimentation.

I've found a few styling products that help (Bumble & Bumble Thickening Hairspray and Phyto Phytovolume Actif), but most anything I add to my hair really weighs it down. And I just hate product in my hair anyway.

I tried to take a pic, but darn it, getting the camera to focus on a fine, clear thread is impossible. PG, the "webs" are EXACTLY as you describe. Now I'm nearly positive it's not bug related, because when I blow on the "threads" they shatter and fly away. Spider mite webs won't do that----they stick like glue. It's weird though, cuz some of the string things can be up to 3/4 of an inch long, and it's enough to give a paranoid plant girl a heart attack!

I like Linda's suggestion. I did something similar a few years ago. I wanted a very Spanish Colonial lamp, but everything I found looked too new, too cute, too generic, or was too large for the space I needed. Still searching, I walked into an antique store in Old Town Albuquerque and fell in love with an antique chalkware santo (statue of a saint). The owner suggested a lamp place to take it to. There, they created the perfect base for the statue and attached it with museum putty, so that it wouldn't be ruined by glue. The post curves around my statue and I was able to pick the perfect shade for it. I love it and always get complimented on it. It's the perfect size, one-of-a-kind, beautiful, old, and adds so much character to my room. You might be able to find a great piece of pottery in the right color and have it attached as mine was. Funky I have thin hair and started using the Redken 6 after hearing about it here. I also like Paul Mitchell Thicken Up lotion. Hair color makes my hair much thicker feeling. I color my own roots because they need to be done about every 3 weeks, but I have my hair dresser do the over-all permanent color about every 4 months to even things out and keep it vibrant looking. It ALWAYS feels thicker then. Another thing I use at home is Redken Shades semi-permanent color. It is SO EASY to use and lasts about a month. I am a chestnut/brown, love some red in my hair, and use a color called Cherry Cola. My daughter also uses the Shades, but she mixes colors. It basically coats the hair, making it thicker and adds a lot of shine. You can't mess them up - so easy for the DIY'er to do at home. I have a hairdresser friend who gets mine or you can get it from Amazon.

All these products are hit or miss. It is great when you find one that works for you.

I guess I should have said that it works for me. I have blonde, very straight, fine hair. Not thick, but not real thin either. You put the crimps on the bottom layers of your hair and the top layers of hair cover it, leaving it look more full. Anyway, it does mine, and I'm so excited I finally found something!

Thanks for sharing, Olliesmom! I also have fine, straight hair. My hair never holds a curl but I am going to order this and try it out. I would love to have some volume in my hair :)

I have very thin, fine hair. If I don't wash it every morning, it looks awful. The only advantage to hair of this type is that it dries quickly. I wash it, let it air dry for a few minutes but not completely, and put some of these curlers in. When my hair is dry, I remove them and have some height and some shape to my hair.

I met a woman online who swears by Viviscal, a supplement for thinning hair. Apparently they talked about it on Dr. Oz and The View. It's not cheap though. You can find it a little cheaper than Amazon's price, but it will still run about $90 for a 3 months supply. I think you start off at 2 pills a day and then eventually cut down on it.
