What's there to do in Dallas/Fort Worth?

Just thinking. I have a SIL who lives within a couple hours of there and we might plan a trip there Spring or Fall.

as with any major city , museums, parks, and for the curious, we went to the grassy knoll (jfk shooting)

went shopping at one of the original neiman-marcus stores...didn't buy anything but it was fun, lol..

plenty of great eating places...

if you can find tickets in the fall, maybe a football game?

i like cities in general and whenever we've had a chance, like to see/drive the downtowns...

for instance, dh and i drove home from visiting dd1 (we had to go to his office) i'd never been on the section of freeway (I75) going into downtown detroit (and we've lived here almost 20 years) there's one area that's nothing but steel mills on either side of the road...all built because of the car industry...then it turns gradually into the buildings of the actual downtown...

i'd get a tour guide book from triple a...they always list interesting places to visit...

Downtown Ft. Worth, the Old Stockyards and Restaurants. Historical Buildings.

Downtown Dallas, Dallas Museum of Art, 6th Floor Museum, and great Restaurants.

Los Colinas is between Dallas and Ft. Worth. Neat shops and restaurants.

North Fork Ranch is still there just North of Dallas.

phasv2, You should definitely do a soil test, Auburn and A&M have very good facilities should you decide to use one. They will even tell you what to use to fix problems if they find them. Have you been to any of the wineries in our area? They are popping up all over the place and offer a ton of great ideas. I know that asparagus given the right soil will do well here, and artichokes are okay as well, both being perennial. You might also look into strawberries as you can get 3-4 years out of them, but rarely a 1st year do they produce in the home garden. Not to mention, nearly all of this can be implemented into a home landscape. If you go with some blueberries, try for 6 bushes if you have room all different varieties, from 2 early, 2 mid, and 2 late season that way you can have them all spring through summer. Or you could just get to early, 2 mid, or two late complimenting varieties. Personally I like Austin, Tifblue, and Oneill. I am planning on planting about 25 soon on our land when we get the well done, I am going to do to southern lowbush, the rest will be rabbiteye and will be planting them like that to get a consistent crop. You might want to look into things that attract bees for bluberry cross pollination to increase yeilds if you go this route.

srahndennis, yeah, it was especially interesting when several were working for competing brands; that isn't a problem anymore :) My brother is very complimentary about Showplace, he says it is the best value cabinet he has been involved with. They do lots of custom work but at a semi-custom price. Well, custom sizes and cabinet configurations, but not custom stains,species, or door styles. He also worked for a custom builder called Actua for awhile, but I couldn't remember that name before. Actua went bye-bye a long time ago during an earlier recession. The guy who started Showplace also started Decora and Starmark; this is his third brand and sounds like the third time is a charm! Crystal is a great cabinet too, but much higher priced; at least that is what I think I know. Lyptus is BEAUTIFUL and has a great "green" story; it ages like cherry and looks like mahogany ... I think darker colors look best, but that is personal preference. On the formaldehyde subject; most national brands that sell in California are required to live by the rules set by California (if you want to get deep into it Google "CARB" to get some "light" bedtime reading; maybe you've heard the term)... those are the best you'll find. The smaller "custom" shops would not have to live by the California rules, but still might be OK; you'd have to specifically ask them.

I spoke with Nita yesterday, and I am so excited about their visit!! They have just purchased a 40ft 5th wheel, and are trucking from Arizona to Fort Worth. The ranch from the show Dallas is on the north side of town,
JFK Memorial, the sites above will list several attractions.
Ft Worth also as the Stock Yards (I havent been there personally, but I hear there is lots of shopping)

If you like Renessiance Faires we have one here in my town, its called Scarborough Faire and runs from the 1st weekend in April till Memorial Day weekend. (we are just south of the Metroplex in Waxahachie)

What kinds of things do you enjoy? If I know some specifics I can try to point out some areas to go! Several towns in this general area have "Historic downtowns" with lots of things to see and do, antique shops are a big thing.

When you have more specific dates in mind you can also check for "festivals" there are several of them throughout the year in many towns around here.

My DD has triple A, I'll have her get me a guide book! Great idea, thanks Susan.

I'll add some of these ideas to my list. No Renaissance Faire - we have those yearly close to where I live. I don't want to do anything too physical...just some shopping, maybe see an interesting museum - I imagine there is a good JFK one there?

Has anybody went to see Daily Cattle Drive
or shopped here at theSundance Square This is probably the same thing as some of you have mentioned.
